I came across this while browsing through shortlines/industrial railraods. It looks like they just raised the cab up a few feet, but would be an interesting critter to model.

I'm quite aware of that. When they split up Conrail NS acquired the PRR and EL reporting marks, and CSX the NYC ones.

EL is a reporting mark owned by NS, so don't be surprised to see some EL cars floating around. It's just like the Conrail coal hoppers sporting PRR or NYC reporting marks.

Although it looks like it may be limited to Chattanooga and vicinity, it may likely grow!

HO / Re: Anyone can have a layout.

From another forum:

"Info about above layout (quoting espeeboy's excellent description): the show stopper might have been the above by Greg Malinowski. It's an insanely good little crazy detailed/kitbashed/weathered "Bay Freight Division" - a small 36" diameter layout built on a perfectly round 1" thick piece of plywood! Those inside hidden curves and ones leading into the paved diamond crossing are about a 12" radius!!!"

ALCo's are certainly human... Ever try to convince one not to smoke?

1. Where are you catching it from.
2. That would be the Late-for-Sure Limited.

It's really not that necessary, but in reality the amount of elevation = Maximum Velocity Squared * .0007 * Degree of Curvature + 3. This can then be scaled down to HO even though it will really have very little effect whether you follow prototypical fashion or just add a slight rise.

What is the maximum speed you will be running around the curve?

Also for Joe, depends how well versed you are in trigonometry.

General Discussion / Re: Northeast regonal vs Acela
June 02, 2010, 08:50:52 PM
Northeast Regional is your standard Amtrak Coach. There's a cafe car in the middle of train for your average Amtrak food. Acela is a step up and I believe they bring you complementary drinks. The seating and interior is a lot nicer. I've never had much of a problem with trains being late, for the most part NEC trains run on time. When you calculate the time it would take to get to JFK, go through security, and wait for the planes departure, travel times are comparable with that of the train.

Superliner cars and the mail coaches need to be on the Bachmann line. Dining cars should be included too. Dash 9 style Amtrak locomotives should be added to the HO scale Bachmann list.
Maybe if Walther's was not already making Superliners, Mail Cars, and Dining Cars Bachmann would consider doing them. The Amtrak B40-8WH's have been done by Atlas AND more will be arriving in November.
I'm a proponent for a revised Metroliner though. The tooling must still exist?

Most 009 equipment is of very small prototypes. At one time Bachmann was looking into producing 4-6-0s in N scale however this project was halted when they could not find a small enough motor. This problem would likely carry over.

Yes, and seeing the extra line of rivets on the panel to the left of the R it would make sense that they would put the R in the location that they did.

It stands for Reading. As one member pointed out the Catenary is of the reading style, and the R-E-A-D-I-N-G block letters would fit perfectly on the girder.
