What IS a train?

"A locomotive, or locomotives, coupled together, with or without cars, displaying markers"

That is a train.  Anything else is just locomotives or cars.

What about MU's? ;)

General Discussion / Re: Allegheny, Alleghany, Allegany

I'm suprised no one's mentioned the Alleghany Company, which at one point was the most powerful rialroad holding company in America, controlling the Nickel Plate, Missourri Pacific, Pere Marquette, Chesapeake  Ohio, and others.

As for this style of deisel, why is Bachmann only selling the FT and the sharks?

Probably because the market is saturated with E and F models of various types, at all levels of price and quality. Bachmann simply doesn't see a market niche in it for the early EMD's. Bachmann also does not appear to be willing to challenge Atlas for the switcher market, so there's not much else left except some more obscure models like the sharks.

Maybe they figure since that if they're going to lose the copyright lawsuit, they may as well do as much copyright infrigment as they can in the interim. Just a thought...

Let's try something a bit harder, with no number or roadname visible.

HO / Re: New Amtrak E60 Electric

It's just irritating that Bachmann messed up on these minor details, especially ones that can so easily be corrected. However, the tooling appears completely correct, and that's the important part. Everything else can be fixed.

Well, pictures of the new E60 have been posted. Naturally:

A. It still says 8-Wheel drive. Is Bachmann convinced that it uses a A-1-A!?

B. They're labeled E60CP. This is incorrect, both are E60CH. does it matter? Of course it does! The CP's pulled far different cars then the CH's.

C. #974...I'll need to see a picture before I accept that this is anything like the prototype.

None of these should be particulary expensive changes to make, especially #1. Bachmann did such a wonderful job on the Acela and HHP-8..why is the E60 being ruined by stupid mistikes?

On the other hand, the tooling appaers correct, and overall it looks nice. Now if Bachmann would just do an E44 or E60C...

Nice job scotty, too bad conrail quality wasn't here  ;)

Well, I'm here..five days too late. But I proved the law of probablity ;D, and got to see a GP-18 for the first time. It's an ugly locomotive.

Hmm...it might be possible to kitbash one into an Pennsylvania E3b experimental. The body and trucks are the same, at least. The rear vents could be a big problelm though...

Have you considered the possiblity that it was a deadhead move?
#464
Maybe they were old livestock cars now being used as regular boxcars. Frieght cars last a long time...a few weeks ago I saw a boxcar in full Great Northern paint on a BNSF train. Or look at Amtrak's baggage cars, not a single one younger than 50 years old.

Walthers made the D.C. Metro a few years ago in HO. It was a disaster finacially, IIRC. After that mess, Walthers isn't likely to try again.
