N / Re: TURNOUT QUESTION HELP!

I am using atlas code 80 track and turnouts. It seems that if I cut the plastic frog area of the track the loco is much better. I'm kinda new to this but can drive me crazy. I can run the track with the Spectrum N&W and the Heavy Mountain now with rarely a problem other than stopping at the turnouts randomly and than starting again. Sometime now it supprises my and run the layout without a stop. My Athearn Challenger and Walthers Heritadge Y3 doesn't give me a problem. Ron

What brand of track and turnouts are you using? It just might not be the loco that's the problem.

Seems to be SPECTRUMS only. All turnouts randomly happening. Not all the time.

So it seems to be just the spectrum locos doing this and is it happening at random turnout locations on the layout, or are there particular turnouts that they like to stop at, just not consistently. ???

At what point in its travel through the turnout is this wheel lift happening?
At the switch points? At the frog? And which axle does it seem to be lifting at which point in the turnout?

N / HEAVY MOUNTAIN GEAR PROBLEM HELP!
February 21, 2011, 06:59:45 PM
My heavy mountain that I just got for Xmas seems to have a gear meshing problem. When I back it up it sometimes stops and it sounds like the gears are turning and no movement. If I go backwards fast enough is seems to go ok. Not a problem in forward. Is there a way for me to check gear meshing. Can I adjust something? How would I get to the gear problem? I can send it in to Bachmann but I already installed a decoder for sound in the tender and I would have to just send the loco and separate the tender from it and I don't know if thats ok. Thanks Ron

Is this a particular turnout and does this happen with any/all of your motive power?

N / TURNOUT QUESTION HELP!
February 19, 2011, 12:32:59 PM
Why do Locos go around a track 10 times fine than stop on turnouts randomly. What can I check out? Is this the plastic in the middle of the turnout causing it or is it somewhere on the turnout where they loss the power or DCC signal. Is there a way to check this better. Ron

I seem to have a problem with this at the turnouts. It almost seems to lift up and loose wheel contact. Anyone notice this? Ron

You must add the capacitor with any sound install.

I put the Tsunami 750 in the Norfolk and Western but it now is running with a jerky motion. It starts and stops starts and stops. The sound seems ok but the running is eratic. I didn't add the capacitor will this help? Anyway to test to see if the decoder is in ok? Ron

The N&W J is an exellent choice from Bachmann, big tender, and is setup to accept sound.
