Thomas & Friends / Re: The Everything Thomas Topic

Well LBSC Thomas and BB James are already ready and made, so I would assume they'll be in stock in the next couple months. The other items I doubt we'll see for  another year, maybe LS Diesel assuming they made a good chunk of progress before they canceled it last time it was announced. Otherwise, all most certainly going to be a year at least before we see the newly announced N scale stock and the NG brakevans, bar the newly announced N scale set which will almost certainly be part of the range when it launches sometime this year.
As for Daisy and Peter Sam, I figure we may see Daisy this July, Peter Sam is more up in the air given the time it takes for the NG engines.

Figured I'd attempt to post this here. Recently started experimenting with adding faces to my NG coaches, and decided to use the clear sticker faces after discussing it with a Japanese modeler who did the same.

I started with Lucy, who served as the testing ground for the theory, though I wound up having to shave one of the communication cords back. I plan to either remedy the face or just redo it. It'll likely be cut up into the separate features to allow for easier application and serve as the test for that.

Agnes turned out better, and she's also gotten her class numbers applied to her door:

Still trying to find one that's a bit different from Agnes for Ruth, while Jemima and Beatrice? Well I'll cross that bridge once I'm able to get their respective kits done and built.

Or you know, they're not allowed to say anything about what could be coming. Like most companies would do.

I would however note that the second highest vote in that poll was in favor of Rebecca, now while personally I think there's certainly one or two characters that should be made for the main range well before, Rebecca wouldn't be horrible choice all considered.

I'm kind of hoping they follow their pattern of making the rolling stock accurate to their respective TR basis' and make it as close to Talyllyn No.6 (Ex-Corris). Perhaps even one variant is directly based on No.6 and the other with a small tooling variant to have the dual ticket windows. Thinking far too optimistically and dreaming really, maybe one will be based on TR No.5, course like I said, that's more a dream scenario given what happened with the stock images for the NG coaches.

And the fact that you can tell just by looking at pics of them they're different

Mattel owns the brand, they control everything. If Bachmann was given free reign to do whatever they wanted with the rolling stock, we wouldn't be getting these lazy, mediocre/outright ugly repaints. I have no idea where you guys are getting that Mattel doesn't/can't tell Bachmann what to do with the rolling stock, but they can with the engines.  ???
I said Bachmann has more free reign with the NG rolling stock, as has been clearly shown. They're smart enough to make things like the coaches and slate wagons accurate to their Talyllyn prototypes cause unlike the engines, which were commissioned by Mattel to be made, Mattel doesn't have much control over that given how the license works. That's why they're currently selling those TR slate wagons made for the TTTE NG range in 3 packs under their 009 range in the UK

So you're saying Mattel allows Bachmann to do whatever they want with the rolling stock, while Mattel only has control over the engines?

Does that mean the chance of Duncan being made with the proportions of Douglas isn't likely?
It's up in the air really

Sir Handel probably wouldn't get announced until at least sometime soon after Peter Sam gets released, but I'd love to be wrong. After Sir Handel, Bachmann eventually would have to make Duncan.

Even though people did express disinterest in Bachmann making Duncan for HOn30 Scale, especially after Rusty was made based on his CGI render, it's possible Bachmann could still make Duncan with the proportions of Douglas. The CGI Narrow Gauge coaches also had a bad render, but when Bachmann made the Narrow Gauge Red Carriages, they actually looked like Talyllyn coaches. Rusty's case was a bit complicated. We'd all welcome Duncan as long as he has the proportions of Douglas. I think Bachmann should consider making Duncan after Sir Handel.

Not sure if I'd expect Bachmann to make Duke anytime soon, but if Bachmann makes BoCo in HO Scale, another character who hasn't appeared in the show for over 20 years, maybe Duke would be more possible. I won't bet on him, though. Luke definitely has a better shot, since he's a CGI character.
The thing is though, Bachmann can really do whatever they want with the rolling stock of the NG range. So know people would rather buy accurate 009 versions of Talyllyn coaches 1-2 and 4, over some bodged CGI model version. And the fact that Mattel only really has input on the engines, not the rolling stock.

Bachmann have officially unveiled the new range for the UK. The pre-production model of Thomas was shown off, showcasing the now thicker dummy coupling hooks(which is now painted black) and thicker lamp irons. The face itself didn't receive anything major sadly, but it has been ever so slightly improved with larger eyebrows. Internally is a more interesting story. The model itself is a far smoother runner than it's US version, and it's now DCC Ready, holding an 18 pin DCC socket.

Finally got my hands on a few of the NG Coaches, already starting converting them.

This one will likely sold because of some small areas I'm not happy with, hence i got another blue coach to remake Lucy. Ruth has just started under going her repaint, with Agnes arriving today.
I also built Cora:

Right so does anyone know of a spray paint that matches the Bachmann blue coach's shade of blue or comes close?

I think it's pretty obvious from the tooling and chassises that they haven't

Personally I think the road they will go down (if they do make Duncan) would be a lot similar to what you just mentioned.  I could see them taking a similar direction like they did for Rusty as his physical appearance would be based on his CG render but it would have the same scaling/proportions as his basis which is noticeably a lot taller than Duncan's CG render.  It wouldn't look that good though because, again it would be based on the CG render.  Now if Duncan's render got a drastic upgrade and had more details or even had a better resemblance to his season 4 model or his basis, then would be all for a Bachmann Duncan.  For now though, I might be better off sticking with my custom Duncan for the time being. :P
Aye. Well a relatively prominent kit maker is planning on a Barclay 0-4-0WT range in the future. It'll be a base standard boiler and other standard parts but with options to make it into different variants seen, going from the more standard "Irish Pete" type, if you get what I mean, to Douglas, who of course appeals to me especially. To start with it'll just be a body kit for fitting on that Kato N scale set with the unpowered 0-4-0 and powered coach, as part of a planned 009 Starter set using said Kato set. It's hoped he'll be able to develop a bespoke chassis for the range, available in either RTR and/or kit form, so here's hoping that happens.
And yeah, I've had the GEM Douglas for years now. I bought it after a scare that they'd sold out for good, course GEM has since started production again on a made to order basis. Never built it though cause the Arnold chassis it uses is hard to find and overpriced when found. When I found a decent one a couple months ago, yeah, stories about it's running were true. Ironically, it had some imbalance in the wheels that made it rock'n'roll, so it was quickly sent back.

Well it also helps that Rusty is good bashing fodder for making a representation of a larger Ruston. Duncan as I said can only really go one of 2 ways, and one of those may give us 009 modelers as nice chassis to use, maybe a body good for bashing, but certainly not good for any sort of proper Duncan, S4, RWS, let alone Douglas and similar Barclay 0-4-0WTs.
