I do agree that it is better than the original toy, in that it has a tender. I never understood why they made it without a tender in the first place.

I am also 100% supportive of making new characters. I have done the same thing myself and may show them off sometime.

Stepney - not sure if you saw my comments about your layout in the old thread - but I think it is absolutely fabulous! I enjoy your attention to detail.
But I wondered why you did not include the water crane at Elsbridge.

Wouldn't it be nice to get an apology on here.  ::)
Probably, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I was talking with a modeler friend about this today. A lot of the stories in the original Railway Series came from real life railway stories. The Rev Awdry was able to use these stories to teach a life lesson. That was the essential formula he used.
There has to more railway stories out there that can be adapted. Those of you that make up new stories - use the internet to find these stories and use them.
And to stay more or less on topic - if you don't like the characters available, make your own.

Regarding the bachmann GWR toad brakevan pictured on this thread, thats not a new model, its just a new identity. The model has been out for a while.
True - but Bachmann listed that model as new this year - there are a few different versions from the same molding.

By the way - Ratio has a 20 ton Toad kit that I intend to cut down to 16 tons, and a face from a Wooden Toad.

Bulstrode really doesn't have a purpose anymore, he could possibly have a "second chance at life" like Bulgy had... but I don't think it'll happen. He had sunk, and heavy wagons dropping that far from the ground is going to do some serious damage. If you really wanted to have a "he's done for" scene, sir top hat can sink him for a marine reef project. (This is actually a common thing in NY & NJ)

I thought he was left on the beach for the kids to play on...

Thanks, the internet hates me or maybe I'm not doing it right. ??? How do I do it?
When you select a photo on the Thomas wikia, you will see a button in the lower right ""Embed". Click on that and it will open three options - the bottom one is "Forum". Click on the url in the Forum box and copy it. Then simply paste it into the message box here. That should do it.

Regarding the younger CGI faces - I had read somewhere that the intent is for the engines to be children - to look and act like children. It makes it easier for human children to relate. Still, some of the engines seem older than the others. One of them, to me anyway, is Duck.
