I know the Yuletide Special, with the very old power pack is not. But, if the set had the latest square controller , with a wall wart, would that indicate a split frame vintage? I know it's a hard question.
Thanks

Folks
THANKS! For all the careful detail. Yup, I want a Christmas train that runs on LOTUS (Looks OK To US)
I bought a Short USRA tender today. I will make it fit. Even if it ends up DCC, it will be a mini decoder, so I have lots of freedom, on how to secure the shell. I'll post results.

EPIC fail. It's the original version. Pre split frame. No traction tires. Runs nice enough to pull a few cars. I'll work it into Christmas!

I'll start another thread, with the right question.

Humble opinion. Buy a new one. The new Bacmann units are amazing. They have improved just like technology has improved. I'm not saying the difference is as much as th phone in Ferris Beuller's day off, to an iphone7... But. If you are putting all the money into DCC and trains in general, the cost will be worth it.

If you want to move away from the Vandy tender, you can get other Spectrum tenders. Maybe Bach Man can chime in as to the potential for another tender run?

I bought a train set 0-6-0, with Christmas paint scheme. If I buy a USRA short tender, are the shells a direct swap? I know I have some adaptations, to connect the tender.

Because, I'm running a lot of small trains, I'll come back to this.... Atlas/MicroAce 2-6-0 Mogul (that isn't reviewed as the best runner... is doing really nicely on 8 1/2" radius.

C'mon Bach Man! Get developing small stuff!

I got most of it. There are a few lighting CVs, I couldn't add, and a few I couldn't figure out how to edit, because they refered to other files. I'm going one of the responders to my thread, takes up finishing it soon.

Thanks Hunt
I got that same link, on he JMRI site today. I was able to ALMOST finish a decoder file. It runs my loco (nicely), but is missing some lighting control. If it gets added to JMRI, I will let people know. It's my first decoder attempt, so I don't want to share it, before they approve it.

Folks,
All I can find, on the website is " including a new advanced Bachmann/Lenz DCC decoder with back EMF,"

JMRI calls it a "manufacturer 101 version 81 no such decoder defined"

I get this ambiguity on all Bmann decoders (Except the Berk Tsunami)

If I get this figured out, I might even want to figure out how to contribute to JMRI and define the decoders there... But today, I'm just stuck on.... What is it?

Thanks
Marty

Thanks guys. I read about the noise, before I bought it. It does seem to be gear related. I'll get used to it.

Folks,
This is a great looker right down to the yellowed lighting and the bell, that leaps out. I'm breaking it in, using D.C. And 16 3/8 super elevated Unitrack. Will extended break in quiet this thing, or is it "destined to sit on the shelf, until I have wider curves"?

Thanks. I searched this site, my favorite vendors. Missed it!

Bought my first Brill Trolley. Redo that shell, I'd buy more. Runs great!

Thanks to all.  I have a used N scale B-mann 060 switcher and I am running it on a Kato Unitrack with 8 1/2 " radius curves on top of our Buffet in our Dining Room.  It is doing a good job.  I can pull up to 4 coal cars and a caboose.   I was wondering if there were any other engines which could handle the curve, possibly a diesel.  It seems that I am limited on my choices.  A 4-6-0 sounds good.  Thanks for your help!

I have a NW2 that runs fine. I'd bet most recent 8 wheel diesels will do fine. Also, if you are just looking for neat looking, as opposed to a specific US Model, there are a bunch of small European steamers. Then you can look at their cute 2 axle cars and you can pull more, on smaller radii
