Dear Gene,

Thanks, mucho!  You said it much more better than I! (to paraphrase Justin Wilson).

For you who may not know of Justin Wilson, may I suggest you do a You Tube search for him. Some of the stuff, not from him  but others has bad language. Thus, look for Justin, but not the other Cajun stuff.

Best Wishes,

Jack

Dear Kevin & Jon,

I have an interest in doing this for a Bachmann Annie and Aristo 2-4-2 Rogers.

I have looked at the Aristo, MLS and other sites to get a basic idea.

My trouble is getting started and picking the best components, since I do not understand battery technology or electronics.

Could we start a new post to list the basics for someone like me who wants to do it but does not understand the components?

I would be willing to buy the stuff and build it if I could get your online help to develop a parts list, building protocol, help with debugging, etc.

I already have a TE that I plan to use for a walk-around controller for an HO layout that a friend is giving me.

Does this interest you?

I am in Altoona, PA. So if "younz guys," to use "Pittsburgh-eze" would want to meet at a common watering hole to go over basics and to have a cup of Joe, please let me know!  However, please don't let me "no."

Best Wishes,

Jack

Dear Trains,

Bob probably has thoughts on this, but lots of good experienced people here have recommended going to 5 ft x 9 ft to give you much more options for improved layout design and working conditions in a space that is not much bigger.

This is intriguing to me.

You could do a search for the topic, or perhaps someone could add to this. Just food for thought.

I had thought about making a 4 x 8 until I read the posts on 5 x 9, and thought it was a better idea.  Good Luck!

Best Wishes,

Jack

Bob,

I must admit to having the same thoughts every time I hear that phrase.

Best Wishes?

Dear Mike,

From past questions I can tell you Hamish and OGR are quite experienced and respected modelers.  Apologies to other friends I do not yet know.

Too, Yahoo used to have a group comprised of Bachmann forum members and other individuals who seemed to be quite astute in things On30.

When I was considering On30 a few years ago, a google search revealed many interesting websites. Perhaps you can find one you like.

One very nice site is from a member who modeled On30, and now has, I think transitioned to S scale. However, the information is top shelf.

Dear Dave,

It is Barry's Big Trains. Quite impressive video of one of his creations pulling an enormous amount of cars.

Dear Jim,

Years ago in the PITT geology dept there was a hermit-like character who took forever to get a Ph.D. His name was Henry something, and he was from Ottowa, excpet he pronounced it Oh-Tau'-wah.  :D

Best Wishes,

Jack

P.S.  I probably shouldn't say this, but someone just e-mailed me a Monica Lewinsky campaign button that stated she was voting Republican because the Democrats left a bad taste in her mouth. Sorry, Mr. B.!   ;D

Dear Friends,

At the risk of being branded a "cross threader," I will add that my diesel mechanic friend uses this stuff as fuel injector cleaner, about 1 oz/gal fuel for diesel or gasoline.  I have used it in my older gas engines and it seems to do a nice job.

Of course, you use this stuff at your own risk, as I will not be responsible for an engine rebuild if you go overboard and use gallons of the stuff! ;D

Best Wishes,

Jack

Dear Jim,

Very droll!  I was wondering about those crazy lights, too!

Have been reading your posts with enthusiasm.

Dear California,

Any chance you could post some pix?  Too, are you using track or battery power?

Would you know if the live steam 1.5" scale club is still operating in Fontana area?

Do you have any comparisons with RCS vs. CRP vs. Aristo?

Any info would be much appreciated.

Best Wishes,

Jack

Dear Bob,

I was a big fan of Smiley Burnette, too, and his sidekick who always burned the wood cross ties!

My Old Man used to call me Smiley!  My wife calls me something else!  ::)

Dear Friends,

Will ditto what Mark said about LGB smoke fluid. Does a nice job on my brass Aristo track and MTH O gauge track to remove crud but not discoloration.  For that I thank you for the tip to use 800 grit.

Per Jim Banner I put a drop of light lubricating oil (Jim, I hope I quoted you properly) on each rail of the O gauge and have had an increase in conductivity and less corrosion on a small oval of track with one track hook up.  A little too much oil and the wheels slip nicely, which my boys like, along with the prototypical chuff increase!

I wonder if a track cleaning setup like Gus del Castillo uses for HO scale would work for G (or is it F?  ;D ) ?

Best Wishes,

Jack

General Discussion / Re: Weights for Flat Cars

Dear Rich,

I am very impressed with the quality of your posts.  IMHO I would suggest being very careful with grinding Pb and possible ingestion or inhalation and lead poisoning. Very nasty stuff. (I quit casting bullets for that reason and buy them in bulk.) It killed our good friend Beethoven.

Dear Bob,

I used to get wheel weights and cast them into ingots to mix for casting lead bullets. Their Zn and Ab content makes them pretty hard. Neat idea to pound them out.

Of all the ideas, I really like the lead solder wound around the axles.

Best Wishes,

Jack
