General Discussion / Re: Reversing Track Discussion
August 03, 2008, 12:11:28 PM
Dear Friends,

There was a discussion within the last 3 weeks where someone on this board mentioned how he created a reversing track segment at the ends of a point to point trolley operation without using Bachmann's reversing track.  I want to do something for Christmas with the On30 trolley but have my electronics smart son wire the track for me.  I already have all the track I need, will purchase the trolley, and want to get started.  My search of this site has been unsuccessful, as has been a search of the web. Perhaps I should try on of the other forums, like LS, etc.

If anyone has a bright idea, please chip in.

Best Wishes,

Jack

Dear Friends,

I cannot find the discussion how to make your own reversing track. Can anyone help me out, or repost the procedure?  Thanks a million.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Those Williams by Bachmann NW2s are as nice looking, and as properly proportioned, as any offered by the various other O gauge competitors.  They are nicely made and operate smoothly and reliably without all the high-tech (and sometimes problematic) electronic gizzmos crammed into many of today's trains.

Dear OGR,

Not to mention they are nearly bullet proof. The guys that run them at our train club love the daylights out of them!

Dear Friends,

Growing up 20 miles NW of Pittsburgh, PA I got to listen to trains being built all night in the Conway Yard, billed as "The World's Largest Automated Railway Yard."  The creaks, clangs and groans were music to my ears.

If anyone would like to see the yard today, you can go to Google Earth and type in "Conway, PA," and it will take you there.

The possibilities are endless for viewing train related sites the world over.

Too, you can type your address and see where you live.

Best Wishes, and Big Brother IS Watching!

Dear Glenn,

Someone a few weeks ago suggested only staying timed in for 60 min.  That seems to work for me.

Dear Joe,

Indeed I did get a smile! There is a pic of her and Gene standing together, her head in a turban to cover the hair loss from chemo, a huge grin! My favorite picture of her.

I love it when these threads digress.  It was natural for this one. One time I posted something that quickly went to cars and TOC, and flathead Fords, and why not to use acetone in gas tanks, etc.   I learned a lot from that one.

Thanks for this thread, guys.

Best Wishes,

Dear Friends,

I will second all good remarks about the EBT!  I took my son and met a friend to last Fall's Spectacular weekend and enjoyed the rock and roll of the ride, cinders in my hair, coal smoke, electric trolley's, the old buildings, etc.

Would advise all within a reasonable drive to try it. You will like it, "I Ga-ron-tee!"

Best Wishes,

General Discussion / Re: Question for Mr. B., et al

Dear Friends,

I suppose I should have told you I was looking for an unconventional answer.

The perfect dog for a piano teacher would be a "Sharp A," don't you think?

General Discussion / Question for Mr. B., et al
July 03, 2008, 01:21:38 PM
Dear Mr. B. & Friends!

Can anyone answer this question for me, and win a year's supply of dehydrated water?

Q.  What is the ideal dog for a piano teacher?

A.  ??

Best Wishes!

Dear Charlii,

Gorgeous!

You are quite a craftsman!

A client told me they stayed in one of the converted cabeese, and did not like it at all.

However, I was thinking of moving one to a place in the country to make a bachelor pad. Just the ticket for an old grizzley.

Would certainly advise a visit. Realize, though, the trip is 4.5 miles out and 4.5 m back, I believe. A very nice part of the trip is when the engine is un-coupled and taken to the "back" of the train for the return trip as there is no turn-around. You can get some very nice close up pix.

Another nice trip is the Western MD Scenic RR in Cumberland, MD. On that trip you will bet cinders in your eyes and hair!  Just remember to look down and blink to get the cinders out of your eyes.

Of course, the EBT gives you a variety of trips on live steam, diesel and electric trolleys. A must see for everyone who comes to the Mid Atlantic states!
Best Wishes,

Jack

Dear Grumpy & Jon,

I believe the answer to your question will be found here, in George Schreyer's tips:

http://trainweb.org/girr/tips/tips4/rogers_tips.html

George is an EE and has a lot of information on his website.

I would suspect your problem is not the pony truck springs but binding of the truck as it moves side to side, or a loose screw as Jon suggested.

Dear Jim,

Brilliant!

Thanks a million!

No need to apologize since this response took quite a bit of work.

Electronics is not my line of work, so I get a bit confused. This is simple enough for a baby to do!

Hope to meet you some day, if you ever get to central Pennsylvania so we can spin yarns over a brew!  I live a stone's throw from the Horseshoe Curve.

Dear "Woody,"

I am contemplating getting  one of these beauties to run outside with battery power and TE.  You would not think ill of me, would you?

All my stuff is used, and I don't usually buy museum stuff if it cannot be run.

Best Wishes,

Jack
