In Flickr under "Group pool," I just get the option "Copy link address."  I assumed that would be what I wanted.

Well that didn't work.

Took me a few tries to figure out which one was the image tag but got it.  Hope this works better.  Thanks Terry.

I don't have any train layout design software so I drew it up in AutoCAD.  Worked extremely well.

I really don't know if that worked or not.  Trying to share a photo of my grandson's train on our dining room table.  No basements in Oklahoma and no room in the garage.  Afraid we're limited to 18-in radius and short locomotives and cars.  He doesn't seem to mind.  He's 4 but does a good job driving the two trains.  Hasn't yet mastered switching the turnouts and crossovers.  A bit of a challenge using the Bachmann DCC controller we got with the first train set.

Is there a trick to attaching a photo to these messages?  I got mine down to 45K and I keep getting a message that the upload folder is full.

Jward, sounds like you are an expert on this topic.  Since you fabricate your own turnouts, have you ever added a two-color LED that responds to the turnout position?  That would allow the operator to see the position of the turnout from across the room.  My old Lionel Super-O set had a red arrow that would rotate between two positions to indicate the turnout position.

I bought a second train.  Does the same thing.  With both trains commanded to stop (control all the way CCW), they both slowly step forward.  Change directions and the train slowly moves in reverse.  Does it about 50% of the time.  Other times the train comes to a complete stop.

I opened up the controller.  5 VDC across a potentiometer.  Wiper appears to go all the way to each voltage rail (0 VDC and 5 VDC) in response to knob going all the way CCW and CW.  I'm assuming the wiper is feeding an A/D converter which is probably where the problem lies.  I didn't see any trim pots on the circuit board.  Not how I would have designed it at all.  Would have used a grey-scale optical encoder with no stops and let the software handle everything.  That would avoid the sudden speed changes currently present when switching between trains.

I assume Bachmann's engineers are all on the other side of the pond so not much depth in the way of technical support over here.

Why would you want to power the frog?  My train works fine with plastic frogs.  The crossovers have metal frogs, but they are insulated from the rails.  If you power the frog, you have to switch the power between the two rails based upon the position of the switch.

I've been a EE for over 40 years, designing avionics, data acquisition, and test equipment.  I've done a lot of rewiring in houses (not part of my job).  Get sloppy every once in a while.  Probably been shocked with 120 VAC 20 times or more.  Just a little jolt as long as you're not in standing in water.  120 VAC is not considered lethal.  240 VAC on the other hand...  Worst shock was working on a light-sensitive plotter (old technology).  Got hit with 350 VDC.  Now that knocked be back.  Fortunately, the high voltage capacitor discharged pretty fast.

Looks like many of you are forced to perform reverse-engineering on this stuff.  I'm guessing there are little or no schematics or interface specifications available.  Do you have a web site where you post your reverse-engineered data?  Do any of you use a digital scope?  Looks like it would be invaluable while attempting to troubleshoot these circuits.

Mine did exactly the same thing.  Sounds worked fine but train would make no effort to move.  The problem was that the plug (from the tender) at the locomotive was loose.  Used a small common screwdriver to push back in and it fixed the problem.

My #4 turnouts have plastic frogs.  My crossovers have metal frogs but appear to be insulated from both rails.

While we're on the subject of turnouts, I have had a lot of trouble with derailments when the train passes over the turnouts, mainly when the train enters at the "heel" (common track) of the turnout.  Especially if it departs the diverging (curved) end.  I've sent two back.  I bought them via Amazon so extremely easy to return.  I've purchased some re-railing tracks in hopes they will help.

I AM meticulous about making sure track-to-track connections are done properly.  Learned that the hard way.

I've also learned to avoid connecting adjacent curves oriented in an "S" fashion.  That really tends to cause derailment.
