Joe,  See my answer in the other post.  Might be a mix of Bachmann & others!

There is not enough information to identify the items.

While it appears to be G Scale, There was no Bachmann G Scale set with all cars and the loco marked UP.  Bachmann has never made a G scale log car

I 'm guessing this "set"  is actually a seperately purchased lot of UP items from more than one manufacturer or a Buddy L set or items.

Pictures will be necessary.

here is a list of all milwaukee road items by Bachmann:

MKBLK,

You put a battery in the transmitter (9v)I think.   You put C Cells in the boiler.  You remove the back of the boiler from inside the cab to get to the battery compartment.  Some sets came with an adaptor to allow use of a rechargable battery pack.   As I  recall you turn on the loco first then the transmitter.

Hopefully this will get you srarted.  I too recommend Ebay for the track.  Bachmann steel alloy track is very cheap and you can get switches too!!

Good luck with your train.

General Discussion / Re: RailModel Journal

Books and teachers may indeed be or becomming obsolete, but someone still has to write the article or prepare the teaching material.   So we will still need teachers, with the smarts to teach using accurate materials.   The big problems I see are authentication of accuracy, and insuring the poor are not left behind.

There is so much garbage online, often put out as the truth when in fact it is all wrong.  The latest bigfoot fiasco comes to mind,  there are probably hundreds of thousands who believe it to be true!!!

As for the poor, my neighbor is a single mom with two kids and a deadbeat ex.  She works full time at just above minimum wage.  By the time she pays rent and buys food and gas and child care and the electric bill, there is no money left for the slightest luxury such as health insurance, car repair, life insurance, or anything most of us consider a necessity such as internet service and a computer.   We will have to make sure she doesn't get left behind.   We gave her our old computer and a bunch of software, but there is no way she can afford internet service, much less the high speed needed for the bandwith heavy media a lot of us use these days.

My grandkids are amazed when I remind them that when I was a kid TV wasn't even invented.  Shucks even I am amazed when I think about it.

It will be very interesting to see what the next 10 to 20 years look like, if I kive that long.   We may even be making our trains at home, my daughter is an engineer, not the train type,  and she has a device that can make parts directly from the CAD program on her computer.   I heep telling her to make me a Weyerhauser 2-6-6-2 logging mallet, but I guess I'll have to buy the latest and greatest from Bachmann

I do G Scale indoors and my benchwork is the same as my old HO scale benchwork.  I use a framework of 1x4's supported by 2x2 legs.  I can stand on the benchwork with no problem!!

Sierra Sountraxx also makes a sound unit for this loco,   It is an easy install, with easy to follow instructions.   They even offer to replace the sound unit if you blow it up during installation.

I know nothing about electronics, but was able to do it no problem,

Hi all

The Golden Classics Milwaukee Road set came out in 1994.  As Joe said it was never in the catalog.   It had the Big Hauler 4-6-0 and a coach and observation car.  The set number is 90094 if you are looking for one.

The add on matching combine 97115, and the full baggage 97415 did not come out untill 1998.  They were never listed in the catalog either!

There were 3600 sets made, and I do not know how many of the add on cars were made, but I believe it was less than 3600 pieces of each.   At the time Bachmann was doing runs of as few as 1200 pieces for some other cars, and I expect the number is closer to the low end.    If anyone has definitive info on the production run for the add on cars please let me know!

The set shows up on Ebay once or twice a year, and it is about the same for the individual cars.

Hi LT,

Been locked out of the board and could not reply till now!

Golden Classics sets

Here is what I know:

There were seven sets made for the Golden Classics series.

Set 90098 1991 Union Pacific 5000 sets made
Set 90097 1992 Pensylvania RR  5000 sets made
Set 90096 1993 South Pacific Coast 3600 sets made
Set 90094 1994 Milwaukee Road 3600 Sets made
Set 90092 1995 Colorado & Southern 3600 Sets made
Set 90085 1996 East Broad Top 3000 sets made
Set 90088 2000 King Coal Reading RR  made for Boscov's Dept Store, numbers of sets is unknown

All sets were made with a Loco Tender and 2 Passenger cars, track & power pack. All were sold through hobby shops except for the Boscov's Dept Store set 90088. It seems to be harded to find tha the others

The sets were made only in the year and quantity noted and were never re run.   These sets are worthy of a collectors attention.   I have seen every one of these sets on EBay over the past three years.   There is no reason you couldn't find all of them with careful watching on Ebay.

Bachmann, Did you do the King coal set as well??

Anybody know how many were made for Boscov's?,  let me know!!

Thanks for the tip Charles, at least I can post replies again.    There has to be a better way tho.   Hopefully the webmaster can resolve the problem.   I can find no way to report problems.

I actually thought it was only me having a problem, but now I realize many have had problems , but had no way to report them!!!
