Hi,
Yup, should work fine.  Since your original loco was a standard line model, there might be some minor fit issues when using the Anniversary version chassis.  Many report no problems.

You will not regret making this replacement.

Hi Mike,
You posted this on the Large Scale Forum, not sure what scale you are in but you should post on it.

Hey thanks for the news,  I must be out of it, as I missed both announcements.   Then again I am not on facebook either.  Still in all it is not overall good news, and not a good sign for O scalers and our scale.  Seems like everything is now focused on HO and N scale.   Ebay prices for many G scale items are surging, I am out of the buying mode, and just cannot afford what is on offer, worse shipping cost have gone out of sight as well.  Like you  maybe they will come back in some form.

Thanks again for the detailed post!

All the best,

Bill

Large / Parts store is now open for orders
June 10, 2020, 03:44:24 PM
Just got a message from Bachmann that the parts store is open now, but will not ship until June 15th.  To confirm it I just checked it out and sure enough was able to order the items on my list.

Hi Chastity,

Which are the two companies who just gave up???  I must have missed the announcements since I have not seen any recently.

Thanks,

Hi, Milton,

You are correct that the gear number you stated is out of stock. Unfortunately I do not know of any other source for it.  The complete gearbox set is also out of stock.   There are no plans that I know of as to if Bachmann will re-release the 2-8-0 or any more parts for it.  You could check with NWSL and send them an image of the gear to them and see if they can help.

No matter, if you do find a source, Please Please let us know here so we can help others.

I did not buy one when they were available, and regret it.

Greg is right about the used market, it is very strong!!   I have noticed that many out of production used G Scale (all sizes) are going up in price.  I am seeing a 7 to 15% increase in prices from over a year ago.  Low production items even more.   I can't believe some of the prices, A UP USAT GP9 with all the parts missing, including the swing hangers, just the loco and trucks and no box just went for $370 used, and a USAT ALCO S4 just went for $530.

Hi All,

The aftermarket parts makers are the future for us, and 3d printing makes it all possible.  I see some nice things being made with 3D printers.  But those guys need to make a profit too.   I see some 3D printed detail parts coming out that I would really like to have, but the prices are too high for me right now.

As for the market for G scale overall I feel that the level of detail on those products now being made lack good detail.  At the same time many long out of production locomotives and cars made by USAT  Aristo and Bachmann are going for much higher prices in the aftermarket than ever.  I wish Bachmann could produce some of the old Aristo models, since Kader owns the dies.  But an inside source told me that Kader has moved their factory to a new location and many of the old dies are lost or damaged.  Seems a shame.  I model the steam to diesel era and would love to see a Baldwin switcher and road unit.

Enough whining on my part ;D, I think I will go play with my trains ::)

Large / Re: Big Hauler Weights
May 23, 2020, 04:50:28 PM
Hi All,

Batteries in place of weights is a good way to add weight, but it does have some disadvantages depending on your point of view.  In my own case I put the batteries in the tender for the simple reason that if they run down I can simply replace the dead battery pack with a fresh one.  doing it the tender has not hurt my pulling power by much, and I can also simply add a second locomotive just like the prototype would if the train was too heavy.  In the event I have a battery go bad, it is a simple matter again of just exchanging the pack without having to dissemble  the locomotive just to get to the batteries.  I have all my locomotives with dummy front couplers replaced with with an operating front coupler just so I can double head.

I post this with the thought that each of us has their own way of doing things and none of them are "wrong", just the persons preference.

Bach-man,

Thanks for the info.  I know it has been tough for everyone.  I would not want you to reopen too soon if it endangers the staff.  We will await news of reopening as it comes.

Large / Web store and part orders?
May 21, 2020, 09:47:55 AM
Hi Bach-man,

Seems to be some confusing info out there.  We hear the webstore is starting back up, but when parts are ordered we just get the "check back later" block.  Any news as to when we can begin to order parts??

Thanks,

Bill

Large / Re: Boxes for large scale locos
May 21, 2020, 09:42:50 AM
Hi Howard,

Unfortunately no.  I have never seen any in the web store.  I am afraid your best approach is to buy cardboard boxes at wal-mart or Home depot and custom make them your self.  Also  U-Haul boxes are good as well.  Sometimes they show up on craigslist cheap or even free.
