I use nothing but SanVal wheels on my cars. They work well on just about everything (Aristo, USA, Delton, LGB, Hartland, Bachmann) without modification. I got mine on eBay (seller ana.kramer). I have only used the solid axle ones (black or silver) which usually go for about $45/20 axles. They also have a ball bearing version which are more pricey of course.

OK guys, what do I have to do to see the pictures?  Never seen a one >:(

Its probably a problem with your internet security program (McAfee, Norton, etc. ). I used to have that problem sometimes with McAfee and would need to turn off my Privacy Security (not firewall) temporarily to see any pictures from Imageshak or Imagedeposit. What happens if you right click on the picture icon (or little red X), copy image location and then paste it into a new browser window/tab?

I agree with you Dave. Even as a newbie buying a RC set in a second hand shop for $40, I knew those things were huge. I just couldn't resist poking a bit of fun and lightening the mood a bit. Things have been so serious in here lately....

Really thought the pie-plate smokebox rivets were a thing of the past.

Dave is not only counting rivets, he's measuring their size!  :P

Small scale railway (http://www.smallscalerailway.com/) offers a sound card for the Huckleberry RR narrow gauge ten wheeler - http://www.smallscalerailway.com/wav/Huckleberry_RR_2.wav. They also have a Bachmann tender install guide - http://www.smallscalerailway.com/example1.htm.
A lower cost option to some of those pricey cards.

The minimum bid was around $25. There were no takers. I bet it has been or will be relisted.

Yeah Jon! Pick on someone your own size  ;).

:D

From the site www.gearedsteam.com -

The first locomotive of the Charles Heisler design was built in 1891 by the Dunkirk Engineering Company for F. A. Addington.   At the time,   Charles was an engineer and personal assistant to Dunkirk's president, Edward Nichols.  Heisler's design departed in several ways from the typical Dunkirk / Gilbert Class "B" being built at the time.   Two changes of note were the placing of the cylinders under the boiler outside the crew cab and the use of side-rods on the wheels.  For some unknown reason, Dunkirk never adopted the design and Heisler later left the company before it's closure.

Brian,

That E-8 looks pretty darn nice on the 10 foot curve.  Are the passenger cars full length or shortys?  Your track work looks fantastic, Have you painted the sides?  It looks very realistic!!  Your idea of shortening the straight track sounds good.  What would you say your spacing is from center to center between the two curves?       Bill

Thanks Bill. They are the smoothsides, same length as the heavyweights at 30+ inches. Yes, that's Aristo stainless track spray painted. A bit of work but it really improves the look of it. I went out and measured the track centers. Its starts out at 7 inches at the beginning of the curves and is 9 inches in the middle of the curve.

Bill,

I made 9 and 10 foot curves work together outside. Initially I had a spot (where the E-8 is in the pic) where I got a bit of bumping (especially the steps on Aristo Sierra cars) so I took about a inch out of the straight leading to the inner curve and pulled it back just a bit. No more problems since then but I'm not running 1:20 stuff either.

I am helping a frend design a suspended railroad in F scale in a 9 x 12 cove.
We plan on using LGB 46 in rad curves and run a new Bachmann K27.
What is the required wall to center line of track dimension so the front overhang of the engine does not hit the wall as it turnes a 90 degree corner?

Lou Weglarz
Thank You.

Let me see if I have this right. Basically, you want to put a 8 foot diameter circle (with maybe a couple of straights on two sides) in a 9 x 12 room. If you put it dead center in the room (6 inches on each side), it might fit but will look ridiculous. Its like landing an airbus at the local commuter air park.

The "Ames Socket" is a very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very BAD idea.  ( :P Sorry, had to get my point across :P)

Hey Bachmann, here is a very easy thing to do with the "Ames Socket", cross it out, like so "Ames Socket".

If I every buy an engine that has an Ames style socket, the first thing I will do is rip it out, smash it up, and send it back in pieces!

Better yet, just refuse to buy anything equipped with the Ames socket.

Great concept if that is what is being proposed (and its not). The devil is in the details and they are all there if you bother to read them and be informed.

No matter which side of an issue you side up on, secret discussions on a matter that effects many of us in the hobby is a bad idea. I will be sure to inform the members of the club about this.
