Large / Name the new LS articulated contest?
January 03, 2009, 11:12:08 PM
Dear All,

In the tradition of giving nicknames (e.g. "Connie", "Annie") to new Large Scale locos, let's start a thread to name the new articulated.

A knowledgeable Large Scaler has recently said that new LS "Mallet" is more accurately a "Meyer".

My entry:  "Oscar"

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

Dear jreplogle,

Plastic track shows up on e-bay every once in a while.

If you decide to change to Bachmann G metal track, I have new ovals (12 curves, 8 straights) if you are interested.

Contact me off forum via email:  joebarbATwwtDOTnet

Technically, you have new old stock (NOS), as the R/C Big Haulers have not been made since the early 1990's.

I'm glad that you are enjoying your set.

Don't lose the controller. Again, I say,  Don't lose the controller. There are tons of those R/C engines out there with their controllers AWOL.

I'm sure you could have an entire fleet of orphans for very little money if you matched their frequency to your controller and were happy running only one at a time.

An engine with a number 7 on it is 27 MHz.  An engine with a number 9 on it is 49 MHz.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

 Dear jmbjr32,

Are you exceeding the current capacity of the EZ-Command station?

Dear Art,

What is the minimum radius curve you want to use?

If tabletop, what size?  For example: 4 ft x 8ft or 42" x 60".

If around the room or shelf, what is the largest radius curve you want?

What turnouts (make, model) are you planning to use?

Get a wooden yardstick for a trammel, a 1/8" drill and large chunks of cardboard to make your own templates.  The sizes (radii) you would draw and cut depend on your answers to the questions above.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

Ahh, must have gotten coal in your stocking.

(Although that might be a good gift for a live steam operator.)

General Discussion / Merry Christmas to all !!!
December 24, 2008, 09:52:02 AM
Dear All,

Merry Christmas !!!

Just a few minor tweaks and I should have my train running under the tree by this afternoon.

http://www.2719.com/images/lunda6.jpg

Two hour drive to my side tonight for Christmas Eve Mass, Choir, way too much buffet food, caroling, noisy fun kids/neices/nephews, obnoxiously fun brother complete with lampshade, burning wood fireplace broadcast on TV, kid cousins' gift exchange, and "Dirty Santa" over-18 gift exchange.

Who will get stuck with the 3 year old gallon size can of pork and beans?

A little more formal on Barb's side this Sunday. Careful with the crystal.

God's blessings to you all.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

Is your loco sound equipped?

At 12 volts an HO scale engine should be running full speed.

Next troubleshooting step is to clean your tracks and wheels.

Let us know if it helps.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

Do you have a Harbor Freight tool store near by?  They sell multi-meters for under $5.   I've seen them on sale for as little as $2

Every electric model train owner should have one and learn how to use it.
