On30 / Re: Sound in a Rail bus

Phil,

When working carefully, nothing will break. The trailer is mounted the same way as the truck. So stay with your bus. My driver fell out as did a window. No problem. The windowglazing can be glued back in, be careful not to get glue on the glazing that-can-be seen.
Lead your speaker wires from the room under the roof through the proposed whole for the speaker into the 'passengerroom' and mount it with a piece of double sided tape from inside.
Watch the 'fold-up'steps on the back of the bus.
Abner the busdriver can be glued back on his chair before remounting the bus

It can all be done.

Phil,
Sounddecoders  come as a seperate unit, then you have to connect them to a decoder that runs the motor.  The Sounbug is one of them, here in Europe we use the SUSI connection for that. Combined motor/sound units are available as well . On your bus, there is an eight plug soccet. In it, with an 8-pin plug, is your Bachmann dcc decoder. You can carefully take it out. From here it all starts. The colored wires make it all work. The chip itself manages the motor. Combined motor/sounddecoders do have -in basic- the same colored wires: red, black, grey, orange, blue, white en yellow. In order to run the speaker sounddecoders do have two extra wires.  A combined sounddecoder with an 8-pin plug can simply be plugged in the soccet of your bus. Find a spot to mount the speaker and away you go.  Combined sounddecoders with only loose wires can be soldered either right 'into'your bus  or have to be soldered first to the eight pin plug. Both 'solder systems' require experience! Last but not least: Soundtraxx has seperate sounddecoders that run straight from 16V track. They do not have motormanagement but can be hidden in a boxcar and thus'serve' more locomotives.

There is enough room in the tender to store the soundchip.  In order to gain room I even installed my soundchip there on its side against the side of the tender. The Micro Soundtraxx does not require that much space. You have to fiddle around a bit to find the best spot for it.
Leave the wrapping of the chip intact!
There is also an intended space for a speaker. Find a speaker that is as low as possible but fits snugly inside the 'circle'. The greater the speaker the better the sound.
One well meant advice: unscrew and examine the underside of the PC board of the climax and snip, better file away any sharp particles that stick out. Insulate the underside with a piece of thin tape so it does not short with the top of the speaker.

There is (limited) room under the roof of the motorcar.
Look at the exploded view on the drawing how the roof is fastened and take it off carefully.
The 'bigger' the speaker the better the sound. I found the intended place for the speaker under the roof too small so I fastened it inside the motorcar right under the intended spot for the speaker.

On30 / Re: Railtruck and split gear..SOLVED !

Hi all,

Today, the box with the essential parts arrived.
A big postal truck delivered them: driveshaft and two crown wheels.
I mounted them right away. Some flash on the driveshaft near the gearbox had to be removed. But then:
The truck purrs along the track!

Thank you Bridget from the parts department
Thank you Craig from Perth Australia for the tip
Thank you Mr Bachmann.

As the saying goes: It is all well when it ends well, is not it?

Hi to all of you
Great news:
I have contact with the USA partsdepartment on the parts needed.
€16,50 included shipping/handling.
I knew in the end Bachmann would not let me down.
I will keep you informed.

Cheers

It seems that North West Short Lines comes up shortly with replacement (steel) gears for both HO Shay and HO Climax.

You have hit THE weak  point of Bachmann industries: hardly no spare (On30) parts available.
]It is about time to mention that here loud and clear.
You have created beautiful On30 models, your customers are buying them
Mr Bachmann, when do you create a solution for MUCH NEEDED spare parts?

I imagine the China factories have boxes and boxes and boxes and......of the parts
Why not have the most needed at hand in The USA,  England and Germany? There must be some room in those big seacontainers to ship them along.
Bet we as customers are all willing to pay for the cost of parts.
With European manufacturers like ROCO, Fleischmann it is one of their major goals to have parts around to keep their trains running. Above all: to keep their customers motivated to buy their products over and over again.
One split gear with an (ON30) Bachmann train often means: desillusion and parking the train on the scrap track.
It happened with one of my On30 railtrucks. and now -in England- with your beautiful shays. If only this is the top of an iceberg.............

Hello Mr. Bachmann,

Have you had any luck yet in finding replacements for the split gears on my railtruck?

Greetings from the Netherlands

In the meantime the Uhlenbrock website has changed. But look for `sound`  and browse around

It is about 2 years ago I added the following ´soundsystem´to my truck

Soundtraxx DSD100 LC sound decoder goose

I do not know whether this decoder is still available. There should be more ´goose/type ´ decoders around. In order to ´hide´the decoder replaced  the steakbed  by a Boulder Valley Models detailed freight box.

http://bouldervalleymodels.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=72

In it a one inch 8 ohm speaker makes this truck fun to hear.
