Thomas & Friends / Re: Season 19

I'm really enjoying what I'm seeing in S19, but I'm not really liking the audio used in the recent US releases, compared to the UK broadcast, the US audio has been sounding distorted.

Those Coaches look really close to the Red Express Coaches as seen in S8-12, just in slightly different shades.

Warning Major Spoilers, IF YOU DIDN'T SEE IT TURN AROUND

I like how Thomas' is being cheeky, when he tries to steal Gordon's coaches and ends up causing an accident. TFC/STH has never been so angry, and skeptical over Thomas. I've felt pretty sorry for him, when he was hauled out from the carven, and when he saved Ryan from dynamite. Also how he's shocked to think that Ryan was his replacement, and kinda treated him like a punching bag.

The scene when Ryan unintentionally sets off the dynamite, and The Pack panicking and throwing it around like hot potato.
The chase scene was pretty epic on how the Arlesdale Engines and Ryan were help Thomas during the chase. It's amazing on how the series has gone from hauling giant balloons to dynamite.

Duck broke the 4th wall with Donald/Douglas.

The Oliver and Oliver scenes gave me a chuckle.

Marion
She's been quite large in this special, I'm not sure how people feel about Marion, but personally I still enjoy her. I laughed at how she thought the small engines were magic. She's a well-rounded character that the writers could work with alot of their story ideas.

Music/Soundtrack: I will say that the soundtrack was incredible, from the pack tossing the dynamite around, to the ship chase.
Even the Arlesdale Engines musical was brilliant. The music vid was pretty trip.

Returning Characters
Donald/Douglas-It's great to see them back in the show, their accents suit them, their nameplates back on their smokeboxes, and even their new whistles are good, kinda a reference to "The Missing Coach."  "Tugboat Annie" anyone?
The Pack- Now this might be controversial, but I was never a fan of the pack, even as a kid, I never really cared for them much. I'm open to road characters, Heck I actually enjoy stories that focus away from the railway, it diverifies the stories telling. However, the problem was the pack in the model series is that the spin-off felt too much like "Bob the Builder." Here in CGI, they're much better utilized and developed they now feel like actual Thomas road characters. Though I will admit, there's actually one pack member that was my favorite; Kelly. I personally would like him to return. Alfie's voice has to be my favorite, he sounds like a realistic teenager.

AND.....

Daisy- Quite a surprise, instead she works on the new branchline, instead of Ffarquhar.

The New Characters:

Mike/Rex/Bert- Yes I'm putting them in the new character category. This is groundbreaking to see the Small Railway Engines introduced into TV. I have a feeling that we're gonna see more of them.
Mike with his irritable self, Rex being sarcastic and Bert being clever.
However, I don't think that Mike and Bert's voices suit them
Now how do the other new characters hold up.
Ryan-Kinda disappointed that his promo persona stating that was "overconfident and dissmissive" wasn't like his offical character, but that doesn't mean he's any lesser of a character. Eddie Redmayne really delivers that natural role. Many complain that he's a Stanley Clone, but I kinda disagree. Stanley is like the cool kid with a blank state, while Ryan is a is the cowardly newcomer, that's been through hell during his first week, and will often panic under dangerous situations. "PIRATES!!"
Skiff-Well, I'll admit that I've kinda judged him like Marion, by their basis. But with Skiff, he feels like an actual character, he's a boat that dreams of being an engine, and with his face on his bow, you can actually see how he's struggling to breath while he's in the water. I really couldn't help but real sorry for him most of the time because his captain Sailor John, treats him like an abused slave.
Sailor John- A human villain. He's the most humble, terrifying, yet most pathetic character. It's pretty interesting on how he hits Skiff and stomps on his deck. But he's something unique to the Thomas world. Especially, the chase scene when he tries to throw dynamite at Thomas.

Easter Eggs:
Wibert Awdry is riding his bike in the beginning whom Oliver (Pack) apologizes to. He's even in the standing behind STH/TFC while declaring the new branchline open.
In the scene where TFC/STH is making a phone call to the museum, a picture of S8 Emily can be seen on the wall.
During the heist scene, I'm gonna mention the Pinup Girl Poster in Knapford. I personally hope to see more of them, maybe in Brake Vans. Kinda gives that authentic 50s atmosphere.
Duck and Emily were working together to help Thomas out of the cavern.

I've actually looked it up, but it seems to be only available in the UK. I don't mind importing models, but it's liquids I'm kinda worried about. I live in the US. :-\

Thomas & Friends / My Workbench
August 29, 2015, 10:05:44 PM
I'm a 20 year old collage student, metalhead, etc.
I know I've been on the fourm for a while now, and I feel that I wish I could of written most of my posts much better. :-\ I'm literally  starting over.
Recently the last few years of my personal life was a tough ride, losing my dad to cancer, last year, even though we've become more detached during his late life.
Anyway, I've grown up watching Thomas, the classic series, S3-5 being my personal favs. I wasn't fond of the CGI at first, even though I've thought "Hero of the Rails" was adequate. But then, everything after that was when I've really lost interest,  especially that stupid "firebox on fire" sequence. >:(
But when S17 come along I was really surprised on how the show has vastly improved.
With all the classic characters like Boco and Daisy pretty much left to fill the gap of the HO/OO for the classic characters. There are quite a handful of CGI characters that I actually like.

Hiro, Paxton, Marion, Timothy, Ryan,etc
And Bear if he's rendered into CGI.

So this is one of my projects I'm working on.

Clarabel's Brake Compartment
Are there any suggestions for the color?

More projects will be on the way. :)

As much as I do like the classic returnees getting their own episodes again, it's good to se the new team put in just as much emphasis on the newer characters so no one is left out.
With the CGI characters they're actually quite appealing. They're much better developed and feel like actual characters compared to the characters from S9-16. Though in S17, half of it revolved around giving the S13-16 characters a second chance.

With Charlie and Stafford, well it's good to see them try but they both fell flat. I will say that Charlie's ep was pretty clever. But nowadays it's at least a good thing he's in the Shunting Yard. ;)
With Scruff, it was a pretty unique "Harvey Dent" scenario.
As for Belle/Flynn, for them, I'd say it was fair. Though personally, I'd prefer Belle over Flynn, character-wise. However it's save to say that their use and purpose has at least become much more logical, compared to their roles from the previous era. So I'm fine with that. I actually can tolerate an 4MT with fire hoses, then inbred stereotypes.
But I think Hiro came out the strongest, both his episodes are equally my favorites of S17.
Personally out of the characters from the previous era, I'd keep; Hiro, Victor, Paxton, and Luke.
But it's at least a good thing on how the others are utilized to make them at least tolerable.

Seems that we got more of S19 news.

This time a female based episode. Caitlin sure seems to overshadow Connor, kind of a shame really because I love NYC Hudsons, but nonetheless, I'm sure it well trun out great.
Rather then the Classic characters returning and getting a handful of episodes, it's also good to see Brenner/Mccue give as much dedication to their own characters as they do with the Classics.

Do share your thoughts. :)

Spectacular, I love the cinematography used, and your narration is pretty great, and I love the music used too.
I found it pretty humorous, but clever on what coach you used for Henrietta.  :P  Bachmann should really add Henrietta and the red branchline coaches in for LS.

I might consider LS modelling sometime in the future after watching this. :)

One thing I do like about the NG CGI renders, and why I think they're better than S4 models, is Peter Sam's funnel, his CGI render uses that Gisel Funnel that was used in the RWS, and the Ertl toy instead of that box-shaped one used in the model series.

S4 Peter Sam

S5-12 Peter Sam

CGI Peter Sam

Also how can you not love the detailing that's been added? :P

I'm glad about what I'm seeing. The Little Western is starting to feel more coastal, more like the GWR lines in Britain. I've thought the whale serving as the catalyst, was a great idea. Toad in CGI, has become one of the most intellectual and resourceful characters in the show. It's at least a good thing the Search and Rescue didn't consider using explosives.

"Who's Geoffrey" ought to be a very weird episode, it's something that rarely happens in the show. But I loved it, especially Thomas' Geoffrey impersonation gave me a laugh. I actually prefer the characters this way.

Reg himself, despite being a stationary character, is a really enjoyable one. As for Henrietta, well I now think that giving her a face was actually a great idea for the show, she's not a pet rock, and the way she plays off Toby makes it feel like they're like an old couple.  When the engines were spreading rumors about Toby's demise, notice how mournful the dialogue sounded. Makes me wonder what the tone might be in the future.

With Henry, well....I think his worrisome persona would work better if he'd fear breaking down, take "Henry's Hero" for example, being one of Henry's strongest episodes. But with a human disease, it doesn't seem to work so much to me. However my biggest gripe with the episode is the humor that revolves around STH/TFC. In this season, it really feels forced, especially the "ripped paints" sequence. It might be me, though. I did however get a laugh, at the paint scene, as if Gordon ran over a damsel in distress.

The Search and Rescue Team, they've grown on me, I can tolerate them now. Even though they're still in the show, it's better seeing what they're doing now, compared to "Fireboxes on Fire."

I was actually hoping that no one would post here until the movie is released. But it isn't too bad. The fanbase has been acting up.

It's actually great to Donald/Douglas with Duck and Oliver in CGI that now completes the Little Western Group.

It's not that Donald/Douglas are undersized is that Duck's Overscale.  :P
Donald/Douglas have been one of my favorites as a kid, it's great to see them back.
I agree about Marion, she's my second favorite CGI character, after Hiro, and by the looks of it's she's gonna be used alot in the show.  ;D

What's going on with Ryan?! Was he captured by Sailor John, or is he trying to intercept him?! :o

And Daisy!!!!! What a complete surprise, but then again her entire comeback was a surprise. I wouldn't even doubt that she will be one of Brenner's favorite characters. Like I said before; He used to write alot magazine stories about her.

That kinda leaves Boco, and Terrance.
The writers would often go for characters that diversify the personality spectrum. Why have we been seeing alot of episodes about James?

Character Groups Completed;
Little Western
Ffarquar Branch
Edward's Branch

Overall, I'm excited for this, and to pass the time, I'm gonna try to keep myself busy.

Tidmouth Goods Shed.

Or the Shunting Yard Shed.

Also used in Ffarquarr Quarry.

I think these buildings would go well.

What do you think?

More images of the upcoming movie

Not sure how to caption Skiff.  :P

But the left one!!  :o
The expressions show that Ryan seems to be a real rival Thomas, portrayed by Stephen Hawkings Eddie Redmayne, himself. ;)
I'm looking forward to Ryan much more now. ;D

You're work is fantastic, I hope you don't mind if I ask you questions

How did you make Clarabel's Brake Compartment?
How did you modify Percy's Coal Bunker?

Boco and Daisy, they're pretty much what fills in the gap? ;) I kinda hope for Daisy more than Boco, tbh. She is unique and contributes so much to the show's personality spectrum. Plus another female character in the Bachmann range.

With Diesel CGI face, I honestly don't mind Bachmann using CGI faces considering that they're really capture the homage of the classic series. Especially Oliver/Toad, the best faces rendered by Arc.
With Diesel, I have to agree that it kinda bugs me, because of his cheerful expression.
But considering that Bachmann does it to meet up with the licenser's standards, I understand. I wouldn't mind at all Oliver's CGI face, they just need to get his scaling right.
