Large / Sound in Two Truck Shay
October 14, 2009, 07:20:32 PM
I am in the process of preparing to install a "My Loco" sound card in my Shay and would be keen on getting some advice regarding the DCC board that is in there. Can it be removed and if so, can someone who has done it before let me in on the secret of all those wires. I have the wiring diagram and have traced the wiring back to the Trucks and lights etc so no problems there. I just need to have all the room I can get for the Batteries.
                 Cheers for now

Cylinders were mounted under the smoke box and linked to the middle axle which was in fact a crankshaft similar to an Automobile Engine. Valve gear ran on the same axle on concentrics. All hidden away but a real terror to grease and oil.

Large / "My Loco" sound in Annie.
September 01, 2009, 05:13:05 PM
Have just installed a "My Loco" in my Annie but have found that the sound needs 7 - 8 volts to fire up and by then the Loco is nearly at warp speed, well, not quite, but it is well on the move.  Has anyone installed one of these sound cards and had the same problem or am I doing something wrong.  I have adjusted the trim pots for minimum volts but it still is a way out of sync. Paid NZ$110 for this so would be hoping that it will work.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
                        Cheers

It could be a Pulse unit rather than a Linear.

Can you talk soundtrax into producing their Sierra sound units again. They are great value and sound great, and I need some for my Shay and Annie.

I think the last pic is of a narrow gauge FE Line of unknown vintage.

I would be thinking twice about changing your coach lighting to track power. There some cons with that idea which are :  Extra drag resulting in more amps required from your power supply, The lights go out when you stop at a station [ not very realistic ] , and even more amps required to light up those coaches.  also, as your Train speed changes, the lights will differ in intensity with the change in voltage.
Of course the pros are that you won't have to charge up the batteries every so often.  Anyway, it's your call and what you do is up to you. I'm sure there are plenty of people for and against Track power Lighting.

Gidday UDO,
I have a friend who has just moved to Shanghai as a University Teacher.  What are the prices of Bachmann and other "G" Gauge  Trains as compared to USA. If they are cheaper I will ask him to get me some Skeleton Log Cars. I always buy from America but the Exchange rate is bad for us at the moment so am forced to look elsewhere.

                           Cheers

Large / Dallee Sound in Annie
February 27, 2009, 07:23:15 PM
Gidday all,
The Value of our Dollar here in New Zealand has made the price of Sound units from USA out of the reach of most people so I am looking towards the more affordable end of the market for a sound unit for my Annie.  Has anyone installed a "Dallee" sound system in their Loco's and if so, what are they like. I have 'Sierra" in my Climax and U Boat and they are great, but priced over the top for me here. As a rough guide for items from America, Double the Price and add approx $60 for postage and you've got the approx price in NZ Dollars.
Let me know what you think folks, I read the Forum everyday.

                                Cheers

I use the Lube Grease that is in VHS players. Plastic compatable and does'nt break down in the heat. On side Rods and slides, axles and the such I use Power Steering Oil. It is designed for use with plastic and Nylon parts and so far after 8 years it has'nt done any damage to my Loco's or Rolling Stock.

I paid $19nz last year for the Gear, axle and Wheels.  Its real easy to fit, just be gentle with the small parts.
