If you want to take the board out, we can probably walk you through the identification process if you are game, and have an ohmmeter.

The motor and track pickups are pretty easy, the chuff contacts and the lights will be tricky.

Also, I did run into a loco that had a hidden internal connection between the motor and the track pickups, it was hidden inside the boiler, and it was a head scratcher for a bit.

From that document it appears to be the same socket as the C-19.

Did you download the pdf file?

https://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/dwg/dwgs/81294.pdf

It has the wiring diagram. That should identify the mystery wires.

I am not a fan at all of ripping out all the wiring and circuit boards unless absolutely necessary.

I like the E8 also!

But, again, too long for most layouts, therefore not the best choice for Bachmann to make money in my opinion.

The SD-45 was pretty much the best diesel Aristo made.

Not so large that it could not handle 8 foot diameter curves (try coupling a Dash 9 to a freight car and see it throw the car off the rails on an 8 foot curve)

Common loco with lots of appeal, very good puller, room for the extra weights in the fuel tank.

But often the "glamor" is in the biggest locos. I've seen novices buy Dash 9, SD70, and large steam locos before they built their layout and then found their curves were too small for their locos.

I would imagine seeing Dash 9's going for 900 to 1200 dollars on eBay was quite a motivator!

I think you can put those 2 connections anywhere that can interrupt the power from the battery.

power on off I believe, i.e. an on/off switch.

I think it would be a lot of work, and even then, you might find other weaknesses in the drive train if you are pulling more cars/loads.

I assume this is the stock decoder, sold with the loco by Bachmann?

I do not think that it will use the chuff switch, typically these are OEM decoders from SoundTraxx, and the OEM versions typically are missing some features, notably a chuff switch input.

Let's make sure of the decoder first, and then the manual on the decoder.

Large / Re: Annie lamp voltage?

Please note: LEDs run on current, not voltage.

There is a "current limiting" resistor inline with the LED, and it's value is calculated such that the resistor limits the current to a safe level.

I believe the resistors in the Big Hauler/Annie are from track voltage, and probably are nominal for 18-20 volts.

Not having a schematic, you would check this out with a meter.

Sounds like the first time, wrong address... that's why no response (Engine sounds usually come on irrespective of address...)

The second time, sounds like you got it right.

That's my theory of what happened.

Thanks Bill I thought I was overlooking something.

Do you know what, if any, speakers are included?

Big hauler set cars are very light, and adding some weight often helps.

Metal wheels are the way most people go, but adding weight will work, but there are other issues with plastic wheels.

Bachmann makes replacement metal wheels, just get the right size.

You can also measure your gauge with an inepensive set of vernier calipers from Harbor Freight

He asked how many speakers....

What post has "spraker" in it?
