I want to put down some roads on my layout. Is there templates that I can lay down so I get the size and markings right on the asphalt roads and size for the gravel roads. This would be N scale. Thanks...Boxman

    Hi Boxman,
I believe road size is subject to era. Dirt roads were narrower than black top, because model A's & model T's were narrower than model F-150.
A good rule of thumb would be to place 2 vehicles side by side measure the width and add 1/4 to 1/2 again. all roads have different size "shoulders" so nothing need be exact.
Most people do not have cars side by side passing each other on their layout. So if you need to keep the roads narrow the forced perspective takes place, that the road is wide enough, they could pass by if needed.

             Enjoy,
