Mogul2-6-0

Hello All,

My steam loco Mogul 2-6-0 PRR started running "erratic", chugged, stalled etc, cleaned out the motor and it runs like a swiss watch again. I Love it, but How do I get the shell off and on safely so I can clean it properly in the future? Does this void any warranty?
Also I blew it out with "plastic safe" electric motor cleaner for my RC car is this a bad method?  Seemed to work great.

Thanks in advance,
Richard

Hi Richard,

1.  Remove the screw under the cab.

2.  The front snaps on with small tabs. Under the smoke box,..with a flashlight, look for 2 tabs in recesses, one on each side.  With a small screwdriver, push the tabs to one side and shell should pop off.

You may have to lift the rear of shell a bit while pushing the tabs, or rock the front from side to side gently as each tab releases.   Yeah, it's a bit tricky.

You  can break the tabs if you get too brutal, so be careful. Let me know what you find.  Hope this helps.

Plastic safe cleaner is fine.

Regards.

Yampa Bob once again thanks a million!
I was afraid I'd break something with my gorrilla techniques so I stopped.
Now I know were to look and the basic procedure I can do it with the delicacy required.
Awesome! Thanks,
Richard

You're welcome.  I was relating from memory and it's been awhile.
