what's gapping

what is gapping cause i'm trying to insulate the turnouts with plastic frogs and was wondering what in the world is it.

Gapping as you call it, is when you isolate 1 section of track from another. The best way to do this is with plastic rail joiners. Each section of track should have its own switch to turn the power on and off. This is nice if you have 2 locos. Put 1 in the siding and shut off the power to its track and now you can run the other loco on the other track.
