I have the 4-4-0 with DCC/sound and I have pulled, I believe seven box cars with no problems, including going up a 2 percent grade. Never tried with passenger cars you want to use. You said dollars are not an issue so I do not see any reason why you should not buy.. Try it and let us know.

If you read the earlier posts it was indicated that the 4-4-0 would pull 4 of the 60' Rivarossi Heavyweights. This was on a 2% grade as well. As indicated these are not light coaches.

If the 4-4-0 will pull three of those coaches it should be quite able to pull 3 of the Walthers coaches.

I think you did get an answer.
