Cleaning and lubricating engines, steam and diesel.

Can anyone recommend a good source of instruction for lubricating HO steam and diesel engines. I have several older pieces that need maintenance. I think I killed one of them after attempting to oil it. I lubed the motor and all I get is smoke now. The engine ran fine until I did that. Is there someting I can do to save the motor? (it is an old Mehano from Yugoslavia)

If anyone has a source or advice on lubricating the motors I would appreciate it.

If you have to lube the motor, it might be best to replace it with a can motor.  Cans require minimal lube, if any.   You possibly shorted out an open frame.

On open frame motors only lube the front and rear motor bearing's with a light oil.also check and see if the is a sponge like lubricating pad near the rear bearing ....oil it good but not to the point the oil might leak back out.

Two words come to mind concerning lubricating HO locomotives.
1) Carefully
2) Sparingly.
Also be very careful that any lubricants you use are compatible with plastic.
