Hi All
I have a Bachmann Spectrum Forney 1:20.3 with sound installed.
I would like to connect the sound board to the optical chuff but don't know which pad on the PCB to connect it to.

In other Bachmann locos (K27 and C19) there is a pad on the PCB labelled Chuff.

Any suggestion gratefully accepted.
Many thanks.

did you look here?

https://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/dwg/dwgs/LS_Baldwin_2-4-4_Forney.connection_diagram.pdf

perhaps "sensor 1 and sensor 2" bottom left edge of main board, there are 4 pads...

Thanks for the reply Greg. Always helpful and generous.

I have the diagram. I tried to attach it to this post but the technology wouldn't allow it for some reason.

I think the S5 is actually the sensor switch - 2 chuffs or 4 chuffs.

I tried to upload a photo of the Forney PCB but there is an issue with space even though the photo is only 35kb. I need to contact the administrator.

I think the pads on the side J1-5 and J2-2 may be the chuff outputs for the optical sensors, as in the Bachmann 2-6-6-2 loco (82894.pdf page 12).

But I'm not sure and I don't like to see smoke escaping from the electronics.

Apologies for not posting these but the system won't allow me.

Thanks again.

Try emailing me the picture, I can get it posted too most likely... (may be barfing on resolution, not actual file size)

But send me the highest resolution you have.

Thank you.

Yep, the Bachmann diagram looked like solder pads, but it was indeed the 2/4 chuff switch

Will want to check if there is a pinout diagram for the socket, the chuff should be a pin on J2.

Probably the same as the other newer locos..

Hi Greg

Can I use a multimeter to determine if there is a "chuff" on J2-2?

Hi Greg

Chuff solder pad for the Bachmann Spectrum Forney 1:20.3, is J1-5.

Thanks for all your help.

It is greatly appreciated.

Was too busy yesterday, yeah, I was going to offer that the pin assignment should be the same as the other locos with the socket:

Be nice if the solder pad said chuff huh?  ;-)

Hope it goes well,

Greg
