I am not a G scale 'guy' but recently repaired 3 Bachmann large scale locos.

The 2-4-2T required a new motor and Bachmann did not offer the part.

I found a perfect replacement on the Internet. Mabuchi #RS-385PH-2085

It fit perfectly. I hope this helps someone else looking for a motor

Thanks rbturner,
That's good information for anyone that may need one.
If Bachmann doesn't offer a replacement, for this and other items such as gears and universal joints, it would be helpful if there was a sticky that had all of these alternative part numbers and their descriptions all in one place. Would be a lot easier than having to do a forum search.

I just bought a 2-4-2T on eBay and was wondering if you know your model number?  Asked Bachmann about it and they don't recognize the part number 81599.

Hi Guys,

Looking at my database of Bachmann large scale products, 81599 was the painted undecorated version of the 2-4-2T that came out in 1995.

Hi All,

While you can't get the motor separately you can get the frame, motor and gear box (with metal gears) for about 69 bucks.

While I cannot guarantee it, this same product may also be a great way to repower the 2-4-2 with the tender.  If anyone tries it please post on how it went.
