I am new to HO trains. I have a Bachmann diesel engine (Chessie System #7071) that needs the traction tires changed and would appreciate any help in how to change the tires on the engine.

That's an older EMD F9 diesel. To change the traction tires you have to remove the wheel assembly truck side frames. It's plastic and snaps over nubs at the front and rear of the truck. Use a small screwdriver to carefully pry the side frame over the nubs and it should come right off. Be careful not to pry too hard, or you can split the end of the side frame.

Once it's off, you'll have easy access to the wheels for replacing the traction tires. Simply snap the side frame back in place when you're done.

If at first you don't succeed, throw it in the spare parts box.
