#4 Turnout kills power on mainline?

I installed a #4 turnout/ left on my mainline/ oval, and it kills power to the mainline when straight is selected. If I select the left turnout the mainline is powered. There is no track beyond the left turnout and the power feed is in the mainline oval. I removed the #4 turnout and replaced it with a remote turnout-left (44861), and the mainline oval has power regardless of which way the switch is selected. This is the way I thought the other switch would work. I understand these to be power routing switches and when straight is selected the turnout will not have power unless I put a feed in that track. I sent the first #4 turnout back to Amazon as defective, and I now have 2 more a left and a right. Before I open these packages I want to make sure the function of the previous #4 was defective and the new ones should act like the the remote turnout-left (44861), or is there something I need to know to make the #4's work like I expected?
