DC voltage for turnout snap coils?

Hello all.

I read someplace that DC power works for turnout snap coils, but uses a different voltage than the 16v AC found on analog speed controller accessory terminals.

Since I'm using a DCC system, and don't want to add addresses to the turnouts, what is the ideal DC voltage for a wall wart power supply?

16V AC or DC works fine. Just make sure the 'wall wart' is rated for 1 amp (1,000ma) or better.

If at first you don't succeed, throw it in the spare parts box.

i've used 16vac rectified which becomes about 22vdc if a capacitive discharge circuit is used.

What JWard says is correct, but don't use 22V AC or DC if you'll be operating with just a push button. A capacitive discharge unit is just that, a unit with a capacitor that discharges instantaniously to the turnout motor when a button is pushed.

You cannot manually push the button that comes with the turnout fast enought to not burn out the coils if you use 22V AC or DC without a CDU. For a manual button, you should use 14 - 16V AC or DC, from a power supply rated 1 amp or higher.
