Bachmann Berkshire valve gear

The eccentric arm on the fireman's side got out of sync and tangled with the rest of the gear. The unit is quite new and well lubricated. How can I avoid a recurrence? I sent it in, and Bachmann fixed it for me but I do not want it to happen again.
