I have a Big Hauler 4-6-0 that is missing two parts that are out of stock. The hatch on the cab is missing, and the number plate on the front of the smoke box is missing. Would these two parts be suitable substitutes?

I know the number plate would not have the right number, but I'm not picky about that. :)

I'm particularly interested in knowing if these parts are approximately the same size. Thank you!

Hi zachdog,

The numberplate will be fine, but I like this one better:

Be aware that the method of attachment to the smokebox door might be different so you may have to do a little filing and use some epoxy glue to put it on.

As for the hatch, the 2-8-0 hatch is smaller than what you need.  I can only suggest you get a small piece of styrene plastic and make a hatch and glue it on and paint it flat black.  It won't open like the original of course.  I did see this one, but I have no idea what size it is because I do not have one.  https://estore.bachmanntrains.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=69_143&products_id=4872&zenid=0sp2unnerjb8vt8hq75vul0uh5

Maybe another forum member who has one could measure theirs and let us know.

Thanks for this advice! Yes, I thought about the styrene option, but I wanted an easy fix.  ;D

I'll consider these options in the project!
