Spectrum 4-4-0 valve rod

I have a 4-4-0 and, while reassembling it after fixing the gears [see other threads] I discovered my valve rod rocker is disconnected from the valve gear slider.  Photo attached.

From the parts diagram, the pin should come out of the rocker arm, so I could twist it back into the rocker.  However, it doesn't want to turn or come out.

Anyone ever deal with this problem?

You'll need to take the valve gear off the axle again, slip the rocker back in the eccentrics and then install the valve gear back onto the axle.

Now why didn't I think of that.     But I don't think I'll bother until the gear breaks!
