I am wondering if this would work? It is for the Bachmann GP-30. TCS has one for the GP-38 also.
Frame looks similar. Very good running decoder. Couple Bachmann locos now have thses decoders.

SoundTraxx recommends from their site, EMD GP35, DCC Equipped
TSU-PNP  885013                     Speaker 810113

Check the site to see what they look like.
Remove the caps. The two inductors are not an issue. They were not for me.
Soldering will be the biggest challenge if you have not done much before.
I have done decoder installations the past few years.

Get a tech to do the install for you.  For many reasons.

The GP30 uses the same chassis as the GP35. The real ones also used the same turbocharged 567 engine, so they sounded alike.

The GP38 rides on a longer chassis. It also uses a non turbo 645 engine that sounds more like a GP9 than a GP35.

If you use the TCS instructions, the GP30 is the one you want.

That is good to know as the diagram at TCS lays it out very nice.
