Anyone ever installed Phoenix Sound in Spectrum Boxcar?  Any suggestions, etc.?  Thanks for any advice.

Hi Howard,

Making a sound car is really not much different than installing one in a locomotive.  You would need a power source, possibly a battery or pickups in the trucks to bring power to the car.  When using the phoenix, you can set it to use voltage to increase chuff even if you do not use a chuff sensor, and trigger the bell and whistle.  You can also attach magnets and magnetic switches to the sound car truck for a chuff sensor.  The phoenix instruction show how to use magnets for chuff.  Alternately you could also run wires from the chuff sensors on the locomotive(if so equipped) back to the sound car, using a plug between the sound car and the loco tender.

In reality there are many different ways to set up a sound car depending on how you plan to control the sound.

Have fun,
