Deadwood Central Locomotive LED light issues

I have a Bachmann Spectrum 1:20.3 Large Scale Outside Frame 2-8-0 Consolidation Steam Locomotive & Tender, Deadwood Central #5, and I cannot seem to get the smoke/LED lights to work - neither the headlights nor the LED's in the firebox/ashpan. I wanted to know if there were some switches or battery boxes on the locomotive itself or the tender that I need to manipulate in order to get those running? They haven't worked since I opened the box, so I feel like there is something I am doing wrong.

The headlights should work without any need for switching on or off, but the smoke unit switch is behind the smoke box door on the front of the boiler.

It would be unusual but not impossible for both the headlight and tender light to be burned out on a unit just out of the box.

Hope this helps a little.
