Can anyone tell me what cars came with the original set? I recently purchased the Loco and Tender but am looking for the ORIGINAL CARS......

Joe Satnik

Dear G2,

What is the color scheme of your loco?  What road number is on it?

Which chassis does it have?

Here is (Bill's) version of chassis identification methods (May 2011):

Big Hauler 4-6-0 Chassis Version Identification  by Bill Canelos
Version 1  1988-1990  Battery Powered R/C Units
Version 2  1990-1994  Smooth Bottom Cover  You can turn drivers by hand and motor will turn
Version 3  1994-1998  Smooth Bottom Cover You cannot turn the drivers by hand
Version 4  1998-1999  Large wide hump dead center between the rear drivers on bottom cover
Version 5  2000-Pres  3/8th inch wide hump offset between the rear drivers and a plastic lubrication plug the size of a dime to the rear of the hump..

Once (Bill) get(s) more info (he) will add the new metal geared chassis in the Annie as Version 6.

From the Big Hauler set list (1988 - 2008) by Bill Canelos:

Set No.   Railroad   Set Name    Intro Date

90022*   D&RGW   Gold Rush   1994

90025*   D&RGW   Silverton Flyer Bumble Bee    1995

90032*   D&RGW   Bumble Bee   1999

90034*   D&RGW   Rocky Mountain Express    1999

Hope this helps.

I own the 90032 Bumble Bee passenger set (1999), so I can give more details if your loco matches it.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik

If your loco is too heavy to lift, you'd better be able to ride in, on or behind it.

Loco Bill Canelos

G2 Capt,

I can help you but as Joe pointed out there were four D&RGW sets.  Let me know what set loco you have, If you do not know what set your loco came from, describe the loco colors and cab number and I can at least narrow it down.

It's the Bumble Bee... I believe it to be LOCO 173...

Loco Bill Canelos

There were two Bumble bee sets:

1995 90025  Silverton Flyer with loco 177 and  D&RGW Box Car 3527 and D&RGW Bobber Caboose #0506

1999 90032 Bumble bee also with loco 177 and D&RGW Combine 202 and D&RGW Observation "Salida"

If your loco has the version 5 chassis it is definitely the Passenger set, if an earlier chassis it would definitely be then Silverton Flyer set.  See Joes post for the chassis identification.

I could not find a D&RGW 4-6-0 with the number 173, so I am thinking it must be #177.

Here is the Bachmann number and info for the cars:

93318   D&RGW   3527      Box Car   Denver & Rio Grande
93148   D&RGW   0506      Caboose   4 whl, Denver & Rio Grande Western
89792   D&RGW   202           Combine   Denver & Rio Grande Western   Yellow
This combine is a newer version than the one in the set and has track power instead of battery powered lights like the one in the set.
89794   D&RGW   "Salida"   2005   Obs   Denver & Rio Grande Western   Yellow
Same note applies to this car as well.

Hope this helps

If it is the Annie it was never in a set, so there are no specific cars associated with the
Annie from a set standpoint.

If your Annie #178 is product number 91602 it is the latest with the version six chassis.

In reality any of the Bachmann D&RGW passenger cars will look fine with your loco, and any of the 1:22.5 D&RGW freight cars will as well.

Here are some of the passenger cars:
89791   D&RGW   None   2005   P-Coach   Denver & Rio Grande Western   Yellow     P         Track Power Lights
89792   D&RGW   202   2005   P Combine   Denver & Rio Grande Western   Yellow     P         Track Power Lights
89793   D&RGW   None   2005   P Baggage   Denver & Rio Grande Western   Yellow     P         Not Lighted
89794   D&RGW   "Salida"   2005   P-Obs   Denver & Rio Grande Western   Yellow     P         Track Power Lights
There are also maroon D&RG and D&RGW passenger cars.
Here are some of the freight cars:
93148   D&RGW   506   2011   Caboose4   4 whl, Denver & Rio Grande Western
93248   D&RGW   71   1994   Refrigerator   Denver & Rio Grande
93318   D&RGW   3527   2003   Box Car   Denver & Rio Grande
93718   D&RGW         Gondola   Denver & Rio Grande Western
93818   D&RGW   505   1996   Caboose   8 whl, D&RGW
98118   D&RGW   342   1991   Stock Car   Denver & Rio Grande

They also ran a lot of "Gramps tank cars as well!!
93445   UTLX   11050   1989   Tank Car   Gramps

Bill, thank you again for all your help...I will enjoy my new Loco. Already found the passenger cars I want on Ebay.....

Will Bachmann / Williams be at the Eastern Division TCA Meet in York, PA IN A FEW WEEKS ??

Russ

Loco Bill Canelos

Glad to help!!   I think they will be at York TCA, but I do not speak for Bachmann, I suggest starting a new post titled;

"Question for Yardmaster or the Bach-man" and I am sure they will respond.
