Dcc in 38 ton shay

I have installed a zimo decoder into the shay following the wiring diagram supplied
And all is well.  Does anyone see a problem with me leaving the smoke unit wired as is (dc diagram)
And using the manual switch to operate it.  That way the smoke unit cannot be turned
On by accident and run dry.  I would like to leave the function keys free for sound.

That is the way I have mine set, been in use for quite some time.

thanks.  I will do the same.
I also need to install a phoenix p8.
I don't think there is enought room in the coal box for the zimo & p8.
Will removing the weight cause a problem with traction?
