I am brand new and in the hobby of HO trains. I recently bought a  new old stock Spectrum 4-8-2 Heavy Mountain locomotive. It is my understanding that it is DCC ready. I bought a Bachmann 44915 decoder, which I believe that I am mechanical enough to install once I learn where it goes and how to open the area. Does it go in the tender or the locomotive? If the locomotive, is that dismantled by removing the screws between the driving wheels? Hopefully there is a plug for the eight pin end of the decoder.
Thanks for your help..

If it is indeed DCC ready, then it has an 8-pin socket in the tender. You will want to take the shell off of the tender and plug the decoder in there if it is older then you might have to hard wire it.
