I would like to know which decoder to specifiy for the Bachmann N-Scale Spectrum D8-40c DCC Ready locomotive. Does "DCC Ready" for this model  mean that there is a plug factory installed for the decoder, or will it need to be hard-wired? I'd very muich prefer a decoder with sound if that is available for this loco.

I don't think there is room for sound, but I can't stop you from trying to add sound if you are determined to try. This loco does not have an 8-pin socket/connector for the decoder, it just has soldier pads that are numbered, you soldier the wires to the appropriate locations and you are done. A DZ125 would probably be a good choice, but it is not  a sound decoder. If you chose a sound decoder it would cost you probably over $110 for the decoder, speaker, and baffle and would not fit without either having a dummy mu'ed to it or making some space by removing some weight and other pieces.
