I was going to buy a left hand and 2 right hand NS switches at Wingz but they didn't have the left hand so it would not be runnable with out it. so i looked around and i think im going blind! i was looking at this 1940's New Haven box car (its what the model i based off) and thought this and the C&NW piggy back would be enough to make my day a bit brighter. My mom comes in with my money (i wrapped it up and she sent it to the bank...$58!) and she said heres a crane. i turned around and it was in plane sight on top of the pile! How did i miss it i'll never know but it was ATSF so i bought it. When i came home, I noticed it had a liftable roof and a metal key piece. No directions but their was a hole in the side.

Does anyone know what the key piece is suppose to do?

Do you mean an Athearn crane? If so, then the key piece will be almost like a Z shape. There will be one end that goes sort of flat. Stick that into the hole, and turn until it locks into place. This will make the crane piece move up and down. Make sure you don't lose that key piece.  ;)
