Yesterday, I open my K-27 with the green boiler. I've never owned a finer engine. My favorite engine was the Bachmann Connie, but no more.  If you haven't seen a K-27, it's a must have engine. It has sold me on narrow guage.
I would like suggestions on a sound system for it.

Congratulations tinibert
You will not be disappointed with the Phoenix sound. Go to the Phoenix web site, next go to sound and then to the K-27 and have a listen, I have it in mine and its beyond great. It install easily.
Next go to Products Reference section on the Bachmann home page, then to Product Manuals, then K-27, then to Sound and Control Produsts for installation. Hope this helps.
I use The Air Wire Battery system and have a wirering Diagram if you want it. I like it and it works wonderfully.
My friend is considering the Battery Remote Control  Train Engineer. I here great things about it. Everything plug into one another and no soldering. ?
What ever you decide, you will love it. My K-27 #453 is fantastic

A friend told me this morning, he heard, there's going to be a sound card that just plugs in.  I want the Phoenix for it.

I've had a green boiler #455 D&RGW K-27 since early January 2008.

The K-27 is run on just about a weekly basis. Once the initial problem with the counter weights was solved the locomotive has run without any problems. The electronics have not been modified.

The locomotive has a RCS PnP installed and it is trouble free, with great range.

A Phoenix Big Sound 97 is installed. It has a set of K-27 chips that Phoenix programmed for me.

This is a short video that shows the K-27 with the Phoenix sound. The newer 2K2, P5, or PB9, depending on what control system is fitted, will produce sound that is superior to the old Big Sound 97 system.

Great locomotive that is fun to operate.  I'd sure purchase another one if in the market for a highly detailed, dependable, narrow gauge 2-8-2.

A friend of mine open his K-27 today and found a broken tender. He's an unhappy camper.

My friend Dan, was told he has about a 5 to 6 week turn around time on repairs to his tender. I suggest that he may want Bachmann to return it and take it back to the dealer. I bought my K-27 from Dan, and it's beautiful.

Depending on how busy Bachman is, 5-6 weeks is about the normal turn around time. Sometimes it turns out to be less.

If Bachmann already has the tender, why not let them fix it? This way the dealer is not stuck with a broken tender that they will have to return anyway. It's already there.

I don't know whether to laff or cry when this loco was announced a while back.  I have two AccuCraft K's, and I'm pretty sure that if there had been an option on which to buy I would have gone for the  Bachmann version at less than a third the price of the AccuCraft model.

But hey, I've had mine for around 7-8 years, now...

There is a good clip of one of my K-27 [453 with the dog-house] double-heading with a pal's green-boilered version on Youtube -

- note the awesome Phoenix sound!

My friend Dan that has the broken tender told me if the Bachmann had been out he wouldn't have bought his Accucraft.  He has three or four of them. I bought my Bachmann K-27 from him. He ask me later if I liked it. I told him, I would have chosen that exact engine. He wanted the one with the Doghouse.
I'll see you at the York Show next month.
