Can Berkley Gear grease be used on my Bachman three truck Shay?
It's used for fishing reels?  It is white and seems to be very thick.

Dear Tl,
Make sure it's plastic compatible. If it doesn't say so, find some lubricants like our EZ Lubes.

It really didn't say, but it's for fishing reels, they're plastic.  I'll call the company tomorrow. I forgot the grease yesterday while at the hobby shop.
I hate to pay 5 bucks for a dimes worth of grease.
I guess I'm getting senile

Fishing reel grease is for fishing reels.

Get either

1.  LaBelle plastic compatible model railroad gear grease or

2.  LGB gear grease.

That's it.

Better to get the right material, than saving $5, and then paying for a new engine or rolling stock when the fishing reel grease destroys the plastics.

As TAC wrote: Fishing reel grease is for fishing reels.

PLASTIC COMPATIBLE model lubricants (not just a single viscosity and formulation of 'grease') are for models.

If the fishing reel grease company says it is good for model trains, be certain to get that guaranty in writing, including an assurance that they will pick up the bill for any damages, including both destruction of the plastics through chemical action, and / or as a result of inadequate or improper lubrication.

Mainly avoid petroleum based lubes and look for synthetics.

More comfort if it says Plastic Compatible.

Do I need to take the bottom plate off the Annie to grease it. I found an old tube of Lobelle. I have 4 new one and a 3 truck Shay to grease.

If it is an Annie or version 5 Big Hauler just unplug the lube port on the bottom plate and grease it thru there. If no grease port (Chassis version 2 to 4) then you must remove the bottom plate to lube.

I have 4 that has the port, my trains have not been run in years, I have to lube all of them. Winter has finally arrived, so I have time.
