Hawthorne Christmas train

Hi thank you for letting me join, I have just bought the hawthorn Christmas train from someone on Vinted .it was brand new, the lady hadn't even opened the connector to the track. We've put the track together, tried the engine - the light at the front comes on but no movement or any indication of movement. I am totally new to this, I bought it to go with my Christmas village set up as it's the right scale. Any  help would be appreciated.

Any idea how old it is?  If it's been sitting for a long time It may need to be lubed, but it should at least try to move.  How did you test it; did you try it in both directions (switch on the transformer)?  Did you increase the speed dial at least half way, or more?
