hi all,i picked up a big hauler 4-6-0.its the silverton flyer line. really nice hardly used condition. what i dont like is the plastic side rails.ive seen metal rails on others. can i buy metal rails for my train ?

Greg Elmassian

so those are called rods or side rods.

You need different wheels and mechanisms, I have never seen someone make any out of metal, but it could be done.

If you want to buy them, you need to buy the entire chassis, there are several threads on this site about how to buy a replacement chassis.

Yes, it is more expensive for the entire chassis, but it will make a difference in the loco in many other ways.

HI,

Check out this info about buying a chassis:

https://www.bachmanntrains.com/home-usa/board/index.php/topic,30394.msg224039.html#msg224039

This one will work, but will have an all black chassis;

After reviewing the first link and checking out the suggested chassis be sure to ask any questions here on the forum.

Have fun with your project.

Barry Olsen used to sell metal jointed side rods for the Bachmann 4-6-0. I have a couple of pairs on a couple of my engines. But alas, they are no longer available. :(
