Forney tonnage ratings

Hi all, how much tonnage could a "medium-sized" Forney (like Bachmann's) haul?

The prototypes for the Bachmann forney are Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes #8 (inside frame) and #9 (outside frame)

they weighed 28 tons and had a tractive effort of about 8,000 pounds.

im not really sure how many cars that translates to though..
train lengths on the Maine 2-footers were quite variable..as with any other railroad.

and #9 (the outside frame version) was technically a passenger engine,
usually hauling a train of 2 to 4 passenger cars..
although im sure she hauled freight on occasion too..

I just quickly leafed through some of my Maine 2-footer books..there arent a lot of photos that show complete trains..
but passenger trains were generally only 2 to 4 cars,
and freight trains between 5 and 15 cars..
but thats a very unscientific sampling!
but probably pretty close..

there is one photo that shows a freight train as long as 22 cars,
hauled by 2-6-2, but its a "clean up train" gathering up cars from the line when the railroad was shutting down..far from typical.

From a modeling perspective,
I would stick with 2 or 3 passenger cars for a passenger train,
and 5-10 freight cars would look quite reasonable and realistic.

Mixed trains were also common..a few freight cars and one passenger coach at the end.

  One of the items I've came cross lately was a C&S time table (Circa 1902) reprint from the Colorado Railway Museum. May still be available ?. I am
using info to make up my own tonnage guide for various engine that I have or yet to get<G>>

It list TE for various class engines
empty car weights
tonnage ratings for various grades.

Class C TE was 16,000# ½ 8,000#
½ tonnage rating gives 155 tons for 0-1% grade
                                         85 tons for a 2% grade

Average empty freight car weight was 13 tons
               empt  passenger  car              16 tons

Remember that Kens number are for a three foot railway, and that the closest prototype to the Forney's were two foot lines.

Two foot cars are a lot lighter. Published data gives the weight of two foot flat cars as 10100 pounds to 11000 pounds for lengths of 26 foot to 34 foot and one figure of 14100 pounds for boxcars of the same lengths.
