Bachmann Emily won't run?

Well, I've just got my bachmann emily out of storage and discovered it will not run.
While it does stop and start alot and "twitches" every now and again, a can not get it to run around a simple oval of track (my track is hornby standard trainset track) I have had no problem with it before,   
advice would be appreciated

Did you oil the motor?

Clean the wheels and the track before doing anything else. Then, as sparks adroitly suggested, oil the gears to the motor, using a suitable lubricant.

thanks guys, I had oiled the motor, but when i opened it up I discovered that it had managed to get a clump of synthetic tree in it (dunno how that happened, better have some frank words with my little brother )
But thanks for the suggestions, wouldn't have discovered the problem if not for your advice
