Hi B-man, et al :) Just setting up a new On30 layout in different space and need to know the minimum radius required for operation of my 2-6-6-2.

Joe Satnik

Dear logitrol,

My 2010 print catalog shows Bachmann On30 2-6-6-2 item numbers 287xx work best on 18"R or greater curves.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Joe Satnik
If your loco is too heavy to lift, you'd better be able to ride in, on or behind it.

Yes, Joe Satnik, it does help! 36" is just about the turning room I have. I know wider is always better, but it sounds as if I can just get it done :) ;D

It is  surprising  how  often  this  question  comes  up!

I have    4 or 5 (ones out on loan) 2-6-6-2 & 2-4-4-2s  Whilst  18" Radius  is good,  they  will run around  15" radius  curves

Also the  layout  on which one  of  mine  is  currently  a  guest  has  a  curve into a yard  somewht  less than  15" radius  possibly  around  13.5! Rad.  the loco will  just  about  traverse that....slowly!!

Hello,

There is a list of minimum radius for On30 locos and cars from Professor Klyzlr.
