Trolley pole on On30 trolley

We bought the Christmas Trolley this year.  The trolley pole, while a very nice looking item, does not rise very far above the roof, in fact just enough to clear the hold downs.  Is this how it's supposed to be or can it be made to rise farther?
Can the pole be set to pick up electricity?
