I recently purchased the above locomotive but have some questions about it.
The connecting wires from the loco to the tender hang quite low and I need to get them a bit higher.
I would like some ideas on what to put on the front space above the leading truck as I do not like the look at it from that point.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

My 2-4-4-2's and 2-6-6-2's have a standard toolbox on the front.
You can tighten the wires inside the tender.

Thanks for your reply, I was running the locomotive for a while today and it seems to be okay.
I was thinking of some air tanks or some thing larger than a small too box that I got with the locomotive.

You could use two air pumps and move them to the front like the Uintah Mallet #50.
Or a platform like the #51.
Have a look at the Backwoods Miniatures 2-4-4-2 conversion kit.

Keep in mind that the chimney comes separately as i found out.

Hello Ton,

Thank you for the Backwoods Miniatures URL.

I see that they are located in the UK, and none of my local hobby shops carry any of their stuff.

Have you had any problems getting stuff shipped from the UK to the US?

As my nickname may give you an indication.
I live in the Netherlands.
So, for me, importing from the UK is no problem at all, for the moment.

Just finishing with one of the Backwoods kits.  No worries with shipping to USA and product was well made and instructions are excellent.  Have used the Heisler kit as well and was satisfied.  A bit unusual that a saddletanker would still have a tender. I extended the rear of the frame , added a cut down coal bunker from a forney and put the tender in the scrapbox.  Now it's more compact and has a much chunkier, stubby look.

I also made a T version using the spare front wheels as back wheels.
The one i made looks a bit like the Uintah Mallets only much smaller.
