Bachmann DCC and analog mode

I am doing some tinkering with a Bachmann loco and have a couple questions: I notice if the loco doesn't receive a DCC packet for some certain period of time it switches to analog mode.

Is there any way to disable analog mode, or will this always happen?

Does anyone know how long a Bachmann loco will go without a packet before switching to analog mode?

Is this 'feature' limited to Bachmann DCC Locos, or do other decoders do this same thing?

Thank you

Hunt

Q: Is there any way to disable analog mode, or will this always happen?
A: Read about CV 29. The value in CV 29 (bit 2) determines if the decoder will accept analog power. Also read about CV 12 if user accessible on the decoder.

Q: Does anyone know how long a Bachmann loco will go without a packet before switching to analog mode?
A: Only will switch to analog upon powering up the decoder and if set to use analog. (see next answer)

Q: Is this 'feature' limited to Bachmann DCC Locos, or do other decoders do this same thing?
A: Dual mode DCC decoders
In general, when power is applied to a decoder it goes through an initialization process. After a successful initialization process the decoder checks for DCC signal. If it does not recognized it has DCC signal it switches to analog mode. If there is DCC power on the track and the decoder did not recognize it, you have a run away t locomotive.
