Goose/Railtruck Operations

Top O' The Mornin to Ya!
Question:  Does the operator of a goose or railtruck belong on the left (as a driver?) or the right (as an engineer?)?  I have seen models done both ways....how did they do it "for real"?  Or is this a case where we refer to "Rule Number One"?

All of the photos that I have seen with someone in the operators seat it was always the left seat, this is due to the fact that they all started out a automobile with the controls brake, clutch and so forth on the left side, it was easier for them to leave the clutch and throttle and the spark adjustment on the left side. And most people are used to using their left foot for the clutch and the right hand to move the gear shift. So this keeps the confusion down to a minimum.
