How to open Devious Diesel?

I see 4 screws down the middle, and 2 on the front both sides. I was trying to avoid taking apart the wheels assemble which appears to be held together by the 4 screws. I dcc Thomas without any problems. I am sure DD would be straight-forward too if I could properly remove the hood. Any suggestions?
